Default Removing a dump valve.

Does it actually effect anything?

IE does the boost raise or lower or do anything different?

It will do something different in that it will come back through the turbo and make a noise often referred to as "chatter"

From a performance point of view though, you wont notice anything.

Its possible it was leaking, and due to that the car wasnt seeing as much boost as it is now.

Thats not a function of removing the valve though, its a function of removing the leak, if you fitted a working valve it would also create that problem potentially if the map has been done with the valve leaking.

I noticed throttle response was actually better once i had removed the wretched dump valve. Dont know why though, it just was

I know that doesnt constitute as a performance gain as such, but it was noticeable

If you have a large intercooler then needing to refill it because the air has been dumped out of it can indeed make a difference to response, but not to the top end fuelling like Phil is experiencing here.

And you bought Dougs old Gunship Saff... EVERYONE KNOWS IT!!!

Strange thing is if I was banned, I would have the intelligence to post in a different 'style' or not go on about a car that everyone knows you just bought....

ITS SOOOO OBVIOUSLY YOU A BLIND RETARDED MONKEY WOULD KNOW IT!!!

I think you are just rubbing Stus and the other mods noses in it.... feel sorry for Stu to be honest....

Why can't you just behave OR rejoin but don't make it obvious so that the mods and Stu don't have to make difficult decisions....

What a peculiar answer

Surely to be banned you need to do something wrong, wether someone complains or not?

Yes absolutely, thanks for noticing, its good that you appreciate my efforts to help you and the other mods.

If someone is breaking the rules to a massive extent and ruining the forum, and it appears that the mods havent noticed then its every user's responsibility to report it IMHO, you say it like you dont appreciate my input to help you and the other mods uphold the rules you have all volunteered to do so.
We're all on the same side here, and fully support Stu and his team, im sure you appreciate knowing that the users are behind you to help stop this sort of thing

If I saw someone mugging a little old lady I would intervene in that too, either by stopping them myself or grassing them up to the old bill for it.

Threads often wander off topic on here yes mate.

If the mods feel that they have done so to an excessive extent then the thread will be moved to the muppet room or spat your dummy room.

If you feel this should happen with your thread, then PM a mod

Thats definately not the case, Phil does the same with SECS for example, and was getting banned from the RSOC and here before I ever even owned a ford.

If it's worth me adding my 2pence, I'd have thought throttle response would be better because there's no 'partial' boost - all the boost the turbo's trying to generate is getting squeezed past the throttle butterfly, instead of some (or all) being dumped.

That doesnt make any sense.

At full throttle, the dump valve does nothing. (unless faulty)

At any other time you dont want the entire boost of the turbo to squueze past the throttle.

In my experience, removing the dump valve does sharpen up throttle response when going back on the gas. The theory behind that is you haven't just dumped most of the pressure from the IC (which would then have to re-pressurise).

Obviously in some turbo / high boost applications, you'd ideally need to run a dump valve to prevent catastrophic turbo stall to due a massive pressure reversal.

If there's a difference after removing the DV such as increased boost, then that's probably as Chip said re: leaks. That doesn't necessarily mean that it had a leak when the boost was set, as up to a point, a turbo will do its best to supply the pressure it's set for - which in the case of a leak, could mean the turbo overspeeds whilst trying to supply the set boost level (which again is a danger point)

Quick Reply: Removing a dump valve.
