Its not that complicated tho!

Its just i babble n write too much

A simple "yea no problem" or "fook that il be killed" will be fine

Seriously mate, no rush, just want an idea so i know what plans to make

as stu said its not to do with the car you drive i think its also worth mentioning turbo systems.

Me : can you do some work on my car?
Turbosystems : What car is it?
Me : Fiesta Turbo
Turbosystems : Sorry we don't do them, more hassle than they worth!

choosing a tuner?? Taking the time and effort to sit down and discuss the best possible route to take on a build, and returning phonecalls, and not fobbing you off trying to sell you stuff that is unsuitable for your requirements is always a good combination

Stu...i use the pectel type diagnostic machine now here at the IMA Racing head quarters...its fapping marvellous

The last thing you want to do is take it to a tuner and he takes the piss out of your car ...we pay you to fix it not lecture us (i personally have never had that happen but i bet some of the tuners on here are arrogant enuff to...no names )

I use Karl

The reason being is that i trust him 100% with what he does under the bonnet.

I have been at Karl many times when he has been building up engines and he will not let anything go that is not 110%

He listens to what YOU want and will set the car up how you want it as long as it is safe to do so.

But the one thing that stands out with Karl is this--------------------------

The middle of last year my car bluw the head gasket. After a phone call to Karl he said that he would by all means sort out the problem but is there any chance he could travel to my house and remove the head there as he didnt want my car hanging around his place while it was apart. At the time Karl was VERY busy and i said that there was no rush for mine as he was having the head all sorted at the same time.

While the engine was apart my Dad who was suffering from Cancer took a turn for the worst. He passed away a few weeks later.

I was feeling all sorts of things at the time and needed a release of some sort.

I rung Karl 3 days after my Dad had passed away and talked to him for a while as he is a VERY good friend. He said that he would stop everything that he was doing and come over to rebuild my car for me as i wanted to get out in it to help me deal with things.

The following day he was over and built her back up

It is things like that what make me use Karl as my tuner, He is not a 9-5 tuner for me.................He is a great mate.

Tiff..............i am sure many tuners would do that for such a good mate.

It seems Karl only tunes mates cars though..as everyone seems to say the same as you

In reality you dont go to a tuner and then be best buddies..you pay the bill and fook off in the hope if anything goes wrong and it aint your fault a warranty comes into play.

In all fairness I have to agree. Karl does have a lot of mates who'se cars he tunes.

Unft Karl is a car enthusiast and doesn't agree with ripping people off blah blah blah and charging Tony Tax on everything lol

In 99% of the time that is True Phil

But out off the (lets say for instance) 50 cars that Karl sees a month, 48 of the people will drive away and only get in contact when needing more work

Karl has Me, Shings, Dingy, Matt, Tim etc etc that i would say are good FRIENDS as well as Customers

Stu has Gus, Doug, Gaz,Markk etc etc

MAD has Ranj, Sunny, Rod etc etc

Martin has Porkie, Renton Sean etc etc

Can you see a pattern Phil

RS500/104, hope this will not be the case for me as I am about to hand over 6 1/2 grand to him

Like I said before though. A1 are awesome at what they do, no doubt. Just received crap customer service. dont really want to go into it much more than that as after receiving recent info it is a very sore subject

I also used Karl on someone else's good words. And now I feel like a mate of his cos that is the way he puts himself across.I TOLD him wot i wanted out of MY car and he told me wot i needed to get it and WHY i needed it.Which in my book is fookin ace .As some tuners will just stick stuff in for the sake of it.Even when i mentioned something that i thought would be beneficial he said dont waste your money and then gave me the reasons for his answer. And very technical answers there were to.

So for me Karl is not just my preferred tuner he is now a mate who i think i could call at any time and be given sound advice and i'm not exactly local to him.

Someone I feel comfortable with, someone who wont talk down to me.

My last RS was wroked on by one person not a big name on here but no one ever had a bad word to say about him.Would explain what he had done would not let the car leave till he and I was happy with it.

But having a RS2k the options are very limited, the only person who seems to offer a decent conversion is Stu (if you can call Ł5k reasonable to spend on a RS2K anyway)

But if I met Stu and thought he was a prick (highly unlikey) wouldnt let him touch it same goes for mad, powers,Karl ot the bl;oke with workshops under the flyover

Exactly stretch, even though I had'nt met you before, I now consider you and rob mates and if you call me up I always try to help you out.

I think it's because I try to really listen to what each person wants and get the person involved with the build so that it's a two way thing, not just me building a random engine for you. Most people prefer to spend their money this way as they feel the car is more personal to them rather than just handing over a wad of money for something they know nothing about!

i agree with you there karl, you do listern to what your customers want.
i mean its not like i have spent much money with you really, but there has never ever been a time when you haven't answered the phone to me.well apart from that time when you knew i was just looking for sex
i find its just nicer having a friend tune your car as it is more personal and you know you aint gonna get no bullshit thrown in
well unless he turns my boost down

I had my engine built by Scs because of ther race, rally experience and they also have a huge advantage of havng an engine dyno at their disposal to develop and get these engines to their absolute peak performance- regardless of power output.

They're now doing a 630bhp road engine, which must be pretty nippy

The claims that your car can/has done 200mph, Karl please do not take it personally but i would say the same to any body that has said what you have, unless you can prove it then i would recomened keeping quite, you are obviously a very smart person so i am dumb founded that you could not see that you would get all this flack and as such have to say you either know you was going to get grief or you did not which as i have said find very hard to beleive.

i chose stu as we had a problem with my brothers escort coswort that was first taken to turbosystems we was there all day and half the night charged nearly a grand and came away with a worse problem than we wnet with after months of trying to fix this ilusive problem i called stu@motorsport developments! just by speaking to him on the fone i said what do u reckogn can u fix it he said ill know within 2 weeks if i can or cant ive never had one that i couldn't fix but yours could be the first! so of we went to blackpool car all booked in craig was tbh wary about leaving the car with him till we got theer and met stu and realised how a professional'y run biusiness we was going to leave the car at and had no probs with leaving it anyhow aftre many 2o'clock in the morning calls we had one shes fixed so of we went to get her he even met us on a day he dont work as it was the only day we could get up so we took him a case of beer for him doing this to help us out and the freindship just went from strength to strength from that day on so cheers stu u are a good freing aswell as my chosen tuner

I agree with everything mattbibs has said!!

i'd choose stu@msd cos of his attention to detail and the fact I have EFI (FRST) - blackpool is a fair treak though!! saying that thought stu... if I hadnt of had so much advice and visiblilty of your operation from on here and the RSOC BB then from just your very brief and dare I say abrupt emails then id not have the same impression. (but i hope this is just due to sheer volume of email requests etc)

karl would be my choice for engine work due to recommendations and what ive heard and also emails etc regarding customers own specs, and also autosprint race engines aswell had very good service from them (him) and would definately use again. chose on price initially as seemed competitive and when rang up was really down to earth and approachable... having an old fiesta and a low budget kinda makes me feel out of it - and I want to know exactly whats what due to my own interest.... if I could tune and do everything on the car myself I would. but there are alot of jobs that require specialists... and I don't want to be treated as a cheque book racer just cos ive had to sak others to do the work I cant do. this puts me into one of the worst customer categories and I cant really do much about it.

my car now seems to have a fair few other problems which id like to resolve myself before I take it for set-up.

seams like a very top thread this , looks like its calming down alot !!

there are a lot of people who i have had dealings with in my time owning / working on cosworths ( i dont really do anything else !! ) some who have had a very high reputation some who had never really been heard off ( at the time) , now to say that some that i have used/been involved in using ( now bearin mind this is mainly for managment purposes as i do my own R + D ) have been a little disapointing ,
i dont always agree with some of the tuners ideas / ethics of working or methods so i dont use them for my own reasons, but when its not a case of 'this is work - im a customer ' type of situation i can very much enjoy a good few beers with anyone and all tuners alike , just because i choose not to spend my hard earned with them doesnt mean that i have any animosity for any of them

to be able to have an in depth technical conversation with someone who works in the performance motortrade has to be very educating , as you can always learn something from everybody !!

seams to have been a little bit of a go at karl this thread some times i understand some of the reasons why but its the same thing time and time again , me and karl have had heated arguments in the past ( as he says on't t'internet ) but thats all it is , on the internet !! if/when we meet in public i would gladly buy him a pint !!! as i would to anyone ( if i think your worth one !! )

my dealings with MSD started along time ago now ( cant remeber when tbh ) but at the time in my area no one i knew was using them, so after a few phone call with a tricky mapping job - asking the impossible , all the right answers came ( well nearly !!! ) but the job was sorted , was very impressed and the rest is history , I do work for MSD , MSD do work for me !! and there is even time for a few inbetween !! and as a real plus there relativly local !!!
i mean how many people do you know who can get there turbo re-cored at 12.30 pm the day before a track day !!

karl

its not all about handing over wads of money, ive got a detailed list of all my parts and how much theyve cost, the parts are most my bill.

It does seem like this thread has calmed down which is a nice change!

I personally believe that there are loads of good tuners who if you have the budget will build you a 600+bhp engine. All the tuners mentioned on this site are well up to the job! The person you chose is thus largely down to personal experience or recomendations.

Jock, you seem to be a little short sighted, and if anything rather argumentative or perhaps jealous?. If you understood the spec of my engine you would not doubt the bhp. However I don't want this to get out of hand as it almost seems like people have a jealousy problem. As I've said I don't want to argue about it, or indeed have people tell me to put up or shut up. I find these comments EXTREMELY insulting. I tell you my engine and car can achieve these figures because it's what I've peronsally tested. I don't have to prove my worth to anyone, as I'm well aware of what is achievable. If you doubt my car in anyway, feel free to come and have a look at my engine. Ranj, why don't you pop by mine and come take a look for yourself. I may even take you for a little test run and show you 200mph on the GPS.
