Default Gearbox oil coolers

Hi there is anyone on here running gearbox coolers. I'm interested to find out about plumbing solutions (just a case of using whats already there fill and drain plug holes) and also what type of pump could be used.

Thanks in advance

Mark

Hi Mongo, I run a cooler on my Getrag gearbox, there is a pump section driven by the gearbox shaft and the cooler is located in front of the rear beam, there is also a diff cooler and 2 engine cooler's.
The gearbox cooler's are only really needed for long distance event's.

Hi mate,

I too have oil cooler/conditioners on our car, just be careful when fitting these sort of items though, as you can remove too much heat from the oil. I have seen instances of coolers on power steering, that actually made steering worse and we had to cover the cooler to improve matters.

You may have seen some people warming diffs up before use, they are putting heat into the oil before going on track or starting a stage..

Hi Rapid, I have a "sandcast" cased race box, basically a modified Getrag 265, still dogleg first, 1:1 top, long input shaft with long bellhousing and externally mounted clutch slave cylinder.
These unit's have a very quick gearchange with very little boost drop.

I have recently purchased a 265 and was wondering what the standard ratios were?

Hi Rapid, don't remember the ratio's but with a 1:1 top you need a diff ratio change.

How long do you mean by long? The car'll be used for nurbergring, and hard road use.

I thought that this might be the case.. Do oil coolers come with an optimum temp range? Dependant on size and air flow etc.

Does anyone know if there is an optimum temp range for box oil to run at?
