Aluminum, does it loose strength over the years?

Curious if aluminium get brittle over age?
Got a a mountainbike with a really thin fram and while out on it today I started to worry about it breaking down while at speed lol.
Am I just paranoid?

Yes, Aluminium can corrode and degrade. Depends on the grade, how its been protected and what environment it has been exposed to.

No, you're not paranoid, they do work harden.

You can just make out the cracks either side of the gusset...

My experience with ally is the newer the softer and if its been left for ages and maybe seen a bit of rain it hardens up.
We used to bend all sorts of big complex profile ally sections up to about 7m in length, you could always tell between new and old because the new stuff would be all over the place and the same settings on the machine would produce different results on identical sections, nightmare.
the old stuff would bend like steel, set the machine up and whack em through without touching or changing anything and they'd all be bang on or within 10-20mm of the target radius.
