Default Aluminum, does it loose strength over the years?

Curious if aluminium get brittle over age?

Got a a mountainbike with a really thin fram and while out on it today I started to worry about it breaking down while at speed lol.

Am I just paranoid?

Yes, Aluminium can corrode and degrade. Depends on the grade, how its been protected and what environment it has been exposed to.

No, you're not paranoid, they do work harden.

I've just had an 8 year old frame fail due to fatigue. Shame as it was as close to being my ideal bikes as I'm ever likely to get



You can just make out the cracks either side of the gusset...
