Good time to go Rhys. Not too hot, and not too cold.

Check out this link....

http://www.discoverhongkong.com/uk/index.jsp

Depending on how long you're gonna be there, do the following;

1: Get hand-made shirt, suit. 1/4 price of handmade in the UK.
2: For electrical stuff/sofware go to Mongkok.
3: Eat as much as you like buffet at Shangri-La hotel on a Sunday afternoon.
4: Disneyland and Ocean park, but DO NOT go on a weekend as the mainlanders from China will be there, psuhing in and spitting everywhere.
5: For clubs, bars etc go to Lan Kwai Fong. Just tell the taxi driver.
6: Hang out in Stanley Bay.
7: Visit Jumbo Floating restaraunt
8: Vist Lantau Island.
9: Try Dim Sum.
10: Shop till you drop at all the big shopping malls. Pacific place etc

Tips.

Do Not bother waiting for people to get off trains etc, cos they won't wait.
Everyone always in a hurry.

Most people speak English, so no problms there.

You'd probably won't find the food from your local takeaway there, cos the food in the UK is for the English market.

Cheers for info Smokey!! im looking forward to it, im off there for 6 nights, then heading to Dubai.

You think its best get money out over here, or do the cash machines operate in English too?

Heared about Lan Kawi Fong! suppose to be good.

Where is the best place to view the light show in the eve?

Get your cash here mate, but cash machines should be in English or give you the option to select language.

Just take some £ and change them up at a bank there.

Take a tram up to the Peak at night. Nice restaruants/bars up there, but a tad expensive. The best place to see all the lights.

I forgot, if you're a gambler take a hover-ferry to Macau for some vegas style gambling. Just remember you won't get in wearing shorts!

Have a nice time mate!

we only ahd a few days an on a budget, but just walking around till the early hours is an eye opener

i'ds say when you do eat- eat where the locals eat and where there is plenty of people eating! if you go for the cafes etc,had the shits a few times from little hovels where there has been no one else eating! great food for fook all! try singtao an pearl river they are ace beers! we had some ace food!try pigs intestines!

also we got the star ferry across to hong kong - its cool, really old steel ship that everyone uses as public transport!

and remember whwt ai said about nice thai ladies asking for you to buy them a drink, guess it's worth it when they stick their tats in your face,an rub you off at the bar

It's partly true, but so do most people (especially footballers).

The exchange rate is about 15.5 to a pound,so everything is practically free!

Personally I wouldn't bother going to:

4: Disneyland and Ocean park, but DO NOT go on a weekend as the mainlanders from China will be there, psuhing in and spitting everywhere.
6: Hang out in Stanley Bay.
7: Visit Jumbo Floating restaraunt

Waste of time really. you may also want to try your luck in Wanchai. and being an "international" city, yes the cash machines do operate in english. hope this helps

as above its an awesome place to visit, not that dirty realy, there are far worse places , i'm in delhi at the mo! horrid!

if you fancy a bit of culture get aferry for about 40p to Po Lin and get the bus to the big budda for like £1, excellent cheap day out and real cheap away from the city.

The peak is somewhere you must go to, if you time it right as i did accidently go about 30 mins before it gets dark then you will see all of hong kong in daylight and as the lights come on and it gets dark, really is worth the 80p ticket or whatever it is.

although cheap, emirates was voted one of the top airline in the world, so no worries there, but if iirc it's not a direct flight.

It gets dark around half 6 to 7, it's best to be at The Peak just before 8, that's when they have the firework/light show along both side of the harbour.

I went on the way back from New Zealand/Oz 5yrs back, thought it was a shit hole & couldn't wait to get home tbh. Victoria peak at night is a must (try doing the superman thing on the train upto it! ) In all fairness its one of those has to be seen places but I much prefered Singapore on the way out!

but Singapore is so "normal", nothing you'll remember after 5years. with HK, u'll always think back and say, yeah, been there done that! however, I'll have to agree that it's a crap place to live, but it's a cracking place to have fun. Just enjoy

The new airport had been voted the top airport in the world for the past couple of years, but it lacks the heritage of the old one. let's put it this way, it's safer
