strange fueling problem. any ideas?
its on a mates calibra.
he had a problem with it cutting out on him every now and again and not re starting for a while after.
it got worse and worse.
the aa and rac have both looked at it and found nothing.
they tested all the electrics, and the plugs, leads, rotor arm and cap have been changed.
its now totally dead and wont start at all.
so yesterday i had a look for him.
the fuel pump was getting power and running.
changed the fuel filter and by passed the regulater/damper thing. still wouldnt start.
i disconnected the outlet pipe from the pump and tried turning the car over.
all that was coming out air with a few splashes of fuel.
i wasnt sure if the pump was just on the way out and not man enough to suck the petrol. so i swopped his pump with the one on my nova.
it made no difference and my nova is running fine now and using him pump.
the only thing between the pump and the fuel is the pick up, and the fittings in the tank.
has anyone heard of this?
the only thing i could think of doing was dropping the tank and blowing the fittings out with an air line.
there is definately petrol in the tank!
any advice of thoughts would be good because he is getting bored of driving his girlfriends ka

ITS THE FUCKING METERING HEAD !!!!
hes been told by 3 garages aswell as a vaux specialist who i spoke to
hes not bothered to change it thugh
theres a switch in there that fucks up when it gets warm and stops the fuel
if he chages that then get back to me
actually il have a word with another place near my work and get them to sort it for the pikey fucker
he knows the problem though !!!!

cowboi your looking at the problem wrong
it used to have the starting issue when warm
its getting fuel but its not getting the correct amount of fuel to the engine
that means its not a hardware problem woth the feed from the tank end,, that blanks that one out
theres the fuel distrubtion that needs checking and thats the part thats faulty
job done
think about it from what the car is

there is no fuel getting to the engine.
this morning i had my novas pump connected to the pipe from that tank.
wired it up and turned it over.
nothing. not even a steedy dribble. just a bit of air with the odd droplet of petrol. surely that cant be right, and everything else has been taken out of the equation at the moment.
not 1 other pipe was connected, i was just feeling the nozzle from pump.

cowboi wire the pump up to a live and the fuel will flow, its not a fuel pump or a line problem
hes problem was the same before, when it got HOT he had no fuel coming though, when it cooled down he got fuel
that automatically says its not that problem as pumps dont get affected by HOT temps
theres something that distributes the fuel, that also will control the pumps wiring too incase theres a issue rather than feed a faulty part of the engine fuel when theres a failure
theres a switch that fails that controls the fuel flow in the fuel dizzy, thats not available seperatly but when that sticks it stops the car getting fuel
look at the diagram of tha actual fuel system and understand how it works,,, theres NEVER been a case of a car not working due to blocked fuel lines
the car would MELT before that happened and missfire like a bitch when it gets closer before it blocked it
look at the fuel system and go from there !!!
