My dad's a joiner of 40 years and swears by Makita and Bosch. I've got one of his Makita hand me downs and its shit hot. Dewalt are good but very expensive, and battery life isnt as good as makita

Ginge !
a bloke robbed my mates shop once.quite a large amount of money involved
strange enough
somebody found the same person a week later on a sunday morning
with his elbows and knees drilled with a HILTI DRILL
i was told he screamed out quite loud
so i guess they work quite well

its the ah figure that means the most on a battery. a hilti 15.6 v cordless has a 3 ah battery and that lasts 2 days on building site conditions for a joiner.but at Ł300 it might be a bit expensive for general diy use.

bigger makitas usually have a 2.6ah battery and dewalts usually have 2.0 ah batterys. i dont understand it but im told its the power/torque behind the battery other than the volts. the higher the ah figure the longer the battery lasts=less charging.

For DIY forget spending hundreds on one...
You want an 18volt minimum, but preferably with 2 batteries.
Something like a ryobi would do you for diy,
I have dewalt for work, but at home ive had a B&Q pro on for 5 years with no worries at all

my Bosh 12v cordless hammer drill recently gave up after around 8 years use....quality but it was costly at the time of purchase.
anyhow I replaced it with an 18V cordless adjustable torque, variable speed, hammer drill which came with a 2 year warranty.....best of all it was from tesco and was Ł27.97 If there's a Tesco extra close to you it may be worth your while having a look.......oh and it works well too

makita 14.4 is fine for house hold tbh, 18v makita will drill alomost any thing,
with the kit you get two batterys and a tourch to,
screw fix do an offer where you get aload of drill bits and other fittings aswell,
awsome drills. and very well priced. black and decker are good, but the chucks seem to let go.
i doubt youll need a 24 as most of them use sds bits
