You'd be surprised.

The US version has a bunch of people who are MBA from places like Harvard, and they have absolutely no basic communication and business skill.

 

This year Alan Sugar has been more involved with the selection process as it was clear previous contestants were picked for their comedy value.

It is worth considering that:
a) The contestants are more likely to be shown screwing up than succeeding
b) It takes a certain personality type to apply for that show
c) These people are pushed way out of their comfort zone it's easy to be an arm chair expert
d) They are picked on the strength of their CV's and initial interviews so there's a lot of BS to cut through

That said I am in no doubt that the BBC play some part in selecting more entertaining people, or at least focusing on them.

I do believe that anyone who thinks they can do well on that show is pretty arrogant, greedy and probably deluded. After all you do have the question the business skills of someone who needs a gameshow to promote their career - maybe that's unfair of me to say. But I do believe that most of the contestants are pretty switched on and could show most of us a thing or two about business.

What does het me up though is promotion of Ruth Badger as a business expert, she appears to now be hosting a show in which she helps out flagging businesses. As far as I am aware she was a sales manager with some very dubious claims of past success and has no credible history and experience in actually running a business. I wont argue she's shit hot at selling second hand cars but I wouldn't want her telling me how to run a company.

TBH the general promotion of the contestants as entrepreneurs I find quite incorrect, I don't see any entrepreneurial effort or skill in surviving a few tasks and working for someone who's taken a computer company from 1.2 billion to 800 million.

I do like the Irish one though, she seems pretty switched on. And I'd give her one.
