Ford Explorers..
Take the pipes off the steering rack that run along it. Them remove the rubber bushes in the steering rack housing that will give you enough clearance to jiggle it out.

done a search on the net and it seems it's a case of remove the tie rods and hoist the engine up a few inches, removing the bushes could be the way out though
i've got everything disconnected but it won't physically come out the hole!
