FletchCossie,
I think you mean he did a playback and recorded it. This is a standard function of Sky+.

I think you mean by taking the disk out and putting it into a PC ?
If so, you cant. The programs are uniquely encrypted.

As simon says - you can't transfer the "recording" directly from the HDD inside the Sky+ box to a PC. It's not actually a "recording" in the sense that you and I associate in video terms. It's actually a data file of the original data stream transmitted to your box.
You can of course record on your Sky+ box, then archive the recording from that to a DVD-Recorder, but this will be done in real time like how you used to video stuff from the TV to a VCR...

i have just bought a dvd recorder today with a hard drive, when using the copy function on the sky+ planner page,it copies in real time, but can you watch another sky channel?
as when you record on sky+ you can watch another channel while 1 is being recorded
or does it only allow you to copy to a dvd recorder and that`s it?
cheers

seems a bit shit then
my understanding was,
it is on the hard drive in the sky+ box,so when a dvd recorder was connected ( and the copy button was selected) it transfered across quickly with out locking a sky channel up,just like transfering from the dvd hard-drive onto a dvd disc (quickly)

The idea behind Sky Plus is it's basically a twin tuner box. You use one tuner to watch a channel, lets say Sky One, and the second one to record a different channel (lets say Sky Movies) and also you can record 2 different channels (Sky One and Sky Movies for example) at the same time. I can't quite remember, but I think you can watch a previously made recording whilst you are making a NEW recording aswell.
But when you play back a previously made recording, that "programme" utilises the video output - which when archiving to a DVD-R, is what you use to transmit the picture (and audio if using Scart) So no, you can't archive a previously made recording and watch a live channel at the same time, as only one can use the video output circuitry at any one time.
Same as your VCR could only record one channel - the only reason you could watch a different channel whilst you was recording ITV was because your TV had a tuner in it aswell as the VCR - the TV was displaying BBC1 on it's own tuner but the VCR was tuned to ITV on it's internal tuner to record
