was talking to field motorsport the otherday and tom said he had built a couple 750bhp engines the otherday
but these were for rallycross, only do like four laps or spomething before rebuild

You have the WRC escos, approx 770 bhp, Ruud with his M3 (cosworth engine) with a claimed output of 780 bhp and i read about a swedish escos with 740? bhp...
ooh, and i almost forgot... the old BTCC RS 500, the white, with (claimed) 800 bhp..

LOL, I rate my own engine at 650bhp WITHOUT nitrous. With nitrous it's up to 800bhp.
My car is used as an everyday car and so far has covered 15,000miles without a rebuild.
Whilst you may dispute my engine's power output Ranj (when in reality its pretty obvious what sort of power it has given the spec) I think 15,000 trouble free miles speaks for itself really!! (Transmission excepted, )
Daz has the same 650bhp rated engine in his dolomite, again with 150bhp nitrous, so I'm sure you'll see very soon just what this spec engine is capable of.

We have just finished the engine as we speak so Daz is currently fitting the transmission and running gear back in the car.
We shall be ready for first stage of mapping hopefully in around 2 weeks and completed within a month. (including running engine in etc)
Weather permitting I'm hoping we can get some initial timed runs before winter sets in.

RuudRacing in Norway dynoed 780bhp @ 8000rpm this tuesday, the dyno session is`nt finished yet, they are going to give harder ignition but not more boost..
on 8000rpm the hp curve was still rising due to VS motor "special homemade" camshafts and the boost was 2.0bar

Karl....ok i beleive you have potensially 650bhp if you up the boost...but as you say you normally run 550bhp.....and lets face it you cant really have done much anger driving in 15k as you said you keep breaking gearboxes...plus i heard you had std brakes/15 inch wheels?

I've seen that dolly....! Trust me, it's all he sez it is!!!
I saw the car at oscotts in cov about 6mths(ish) back, and had a good peek under the bonnet.... (not much room there!) I'd love to have a go.... It SOUNDS amazing!!!

it is gonna be featured in PF, but i don't know when.. but i hope it will be pretty soon..
i don't know much about the spec of the engine but a ex f1 turbo should make it pretty fast..
same turbo as the wrc excos has but only bigger
here are two pics..

Hi Phil,
No to be fair I do drive the car pretty hard on the go. Where I am conservative is with the launch. By running around 550bhp I usually find I can manage around 3000 miles a box provided I'm fairly smooth with the power in 3rd gear. (as this is what breaks first)
When I run the car at 650bhp (Which is around 30psi) the box breaks within minutes.
However even though I tend to cap the boost to 24psi for the road (550bhp) I still rev the engine round to 8500 virtually every gear, so the engine does see all the acclerated wear rates associated with a high revving engine. As such I'm keeping a close eye on cylinder leakage rates and oil consumption as part of my ongoing assessment into making this spec of engine reliable as a road going engine!
As for the brakes and wheels, have you ever seen pic of my car phil? since the engine went in I run 17 inch split rims and very cool they look too!!!
The brakes are 300mm tarox 40 groove ventilated front and back but retain std 4 pot calipers and 4X4 rears. I use mintex 1155/66 pads and SRF fluid and whilst this is not the best setup it has been excellent for a road car!!
If I choose to run a bigger setup such as 330's with AP calipers the 17 inch split rims don't fit as the bolts foul the caliper. I keep looking for a solution and I think I'm just going to have to rebuild the split rims with a different low height nut on the inside so I can gain the clearance.
Along with the transmission these are the last things to do on my car before I'm 100% happy with it.
