Indeed, annoying thing about the spec he had this time, is he had it working finally how he wanted it, then shortly after had the misfortune of a valveseat failing, even though he HAD spent the money on a decent head for it as far as I know.

dave seriously i think he should have jonah in his car for GOOD luck,,,, couldnt get any worse

hearing the stories about him over time,,,, that much bad luck aint possible,,, every now and again even i get a few breaks,,,, hes "good luck" is getting home without the need of a towrope

he hit a deer on the nurburgring,,,, theres not even a way they can access the ring from ANYWHERE,,,, but he managed to hit the ONLY DEER to have got on the ring,,,, i bet if he put a bet on every horse in the national they would call the race a false start,,, hang about that DID happen,,,,,,

wonder if he had a bet on that day

wonder if hes ever had a final desination moment and hes trying to cheat death

either that or hes had a entire black cat sactuary walk infront of him whilst he walked under a bridge made of 90 ladders whilst breaking mirrors for fun

he should write a book about his bad luck,,,, well he could try but im sure the computer would crash near him finishing it

I WILL be breaking my car shortly, and my Marco Mullet box will be for sale.

The only thing that will stop me is if I come into money (sure, that's going to happen!) and I can afford to fix it.

The head had Ł1500 poured into it, the valve seat or valve stem failure is bound to be my shit out bad luck!

Also, the Mullet gear box can be had for LESS than Ł3k.

I know how much mine cost after all.

I've got all the prices for all the options written down somewhere at home - if you want them PM me and I'll dig them out.

Incidentally for all the moaners - apart from my own PERSONAL gearboxes which will be up for sale shortly, I personally AM NOT selling any gearboxes. Gearbox Man (IIRC he still uses this place?) Mike R and Martin Hadland are the only PF Traders I know of that can help you.

I'd say so.

The Mullet box (and I would imagine the Fixit too) has to be straight cut for the strength. The downside is the noise (though I never had a problem with mine- I liked the noise.)

I know there are plans at Mullet HQ for a more road biased box with helically cut gears, but it simply will not be as strong. Should still be a good option for the 350-450bhp people.

Mike - deffo know a Mullet box can be bought for under Ł3k by Joe Public tomorrow.

My own box was even less than that, as I was one (the?) test dummy for it.

Ginge - thought marco wanted the kit to be 3k built when he started it as a idea ? Spot on matey, that's still his aim.

Marco, this isnt a pisstake question, so please dont take it that way as I know it may seem like it.

But is the entry level mullet box any better at fully bore launches than a standard box?

Its just I notice you saying "porkie's car has launched hard on one" but he is on standard first gear and standard shaft, so how is that a reflection on the mullet box, or is the support from the bearings etc better in order to better support the standard shaft?

The Fixit kit is SEMI-straight cut, so isn't quite as noisy as the Mullet one.

Both have the same weakness in using the OE first gear and main-shaft in the base kit.

Both can be upgraded to the bullet proof kit by fitting the Mullet upgraded first gear and main-shaft, but this adds just over Ł1500 to the price of each . However, at least you can then launch with impunity (well, for as long as the standard 4x4 drive shaft joints last ).

Didn't say track car either... and if it WAS just a track car then it would have said surely?

I have driven Bruces and Martins old cars on the road with R&D boxes... very very NASTY.

and they were overdriven boxes! that one has 1:1 6th gear!

Rally car box.. or short sprint track gearbox... would be hitting limiter on any long straight on track!

As long as you had the power, as the limiter with 1:1 is 155mph - 170mph (rev limit dependant... ).

But you're correct, the R&D is not particularly good, but not for that reason, but the same reason as for the Quaife "big-tooth" - it canny take the power Jim .
