this has been a bloody good discussion.and tbh,i think when the time comes im going for the mullit. i cant be doing with worrying that if i launch it at the pod or a set of lights its gonna go pop.ive had unbelievable luck with my whole car so far really and it can only last so long so i would like to cut down the chance of it going tits up on me.
i then have the worry of the diffs and shafts

MARCO.. the reason on the name

Ok, to clear things up price wise. This is how much the straight cut gearset costs....

Gearkit Ł2650,
1st gear set * Ł 250,
Mainshaft* Ł1000.

All prices are plus VAT

The items marked * are optional and have not been fitted to Porkies car, which at the moment is showing no signs of any problems..This gear box will shorly be removed and fitted to the Mondeo to see how it copes with sustained high speed runs and the effects a heavier car has on it when launching.

You will need a suitable donor gearbox as a base unit for the gearkit to be installed into, if the unit is in good order parts and labour are going to total around Ł300 (again plus vat).

This means that all in the gearkit built and fitted into your casing and ready to install will cost Ł3466.25 (based on a good base box)

Both Reyland and Marco are authorised sellers and the price will be the same from both.

Yes it's still 'super green' and once it's done it's high speed runs it will then be for sale, px you for your garden ornament.

But is the entry level mullet box any better at fully bore launches than a standard box?

Its just I notice you saying "porkie's car has launched hard on one" but he is on standard first gear and standard shaft, so how is that a reflection on the mullet box, or is the support from the bearings etc better in order to better support the standard shaft?

chip

i fogot to mension that 4th gear takes some of the abuse/load when launching because it's on the same line as 1st ,so to say

I'm using Marco's mullit box for two months now and I'm very happy it's taking all the abuse no problem I'm doing a lot of lounching with my 500+ bhp escos and broke 4 std boxes in a month, before I found the right decission

Told ya, that's what I was running in mine, and it held together fine.

Wouldn't say wasted though as I'm sure the thick wall is good, just I never needed it.

I did mate, what was your max bid? as the thing went up Ł400 in 5 mins - or you saying I put some shady bidding in??

Thing is sib, it's only 2 or 3 front diff failures before it has paid for itself by the time you have driven to pick up a spare diff, spent the time getting the thing in and out again, dropping my mate some cash for the use of his ramps etc, as I really can't be fucked hauling front diffs in and out every other week, I drive like a bit of an animal, although I am very mechanically sympathetic when I can be, I would rarther it be much harder to break than to just take a chance.....

Yes - there is a 0.75 fifth option as well to give you a higher top speed and less revs in the cruise

In the interest of learning/comparing and not slagging off

I have DPE Gearbox which has a Straight cut 2nd and 3rd with Standard 1st, 4th and 5th. I was told 4th and 5th aren't very prone to break.

Whats the difference between what I've got and the mullit other then not having straight cut 4th and 5th.

i never bid, i was watching right up to the end and some new ebay member,1 week he has been joined up for, he made the bidding go right to the limit,i thought this was a bit strange.

Considering I got offered the diff outside of Ebay for Ł900 it dosn't really surprise me either ...... but what can you do? ... No such thing as an ebay bargin anymore as people just bid stuff up to what they want for it anyway

Probably not a lot of difference as long as your gears are the same quality.
