At a guess it's a mid-engined Renault 5 Turbo 2 ....NOT a R5 GT turbo.

These were rwd cars

You would be shocked if you knew how well these cars handled!!

I got taken out in one many years ago - went to look at one with the intention of buying it - the guy selling it owned a garage in Dorset. Happened to be an ex rally driver, can't remember his name. But bloody hell, could he drive. If the car hadnt been a bit tatty, I would have had it!!

Don't ever compare these to a normal Renault 5 GT Turbo!!

i think it will take a while to sell something like that. for what it is, i agree, its worth every penny but there arent many people out there with £25000 to blow on a car that should be a mantle piece decoration! lol

I've had one!

painted up in the colours of Jean Ragnotti....looked good but dear oh dear...you don't want to crash it....

You're sat on a HUGE fueltank....virtually all the pannels are fibre and flimsy at best....

Good bits: 180 BHP midengined, tubularv manifold with the turbo sat right behind the seats

Its a fookin mega rare and awesome GrpB rallycar, not a GT Turbo

God help you when you find a 205 T16 Evo2 for about 50k and start a "I thought Pug 205s were worth about a grand a best, whys this one 50k, all its got is a Dimma Bodykit" thread.

Birds eh, fantastic

once again,wrong!!!
what year was the renault made?
what year did group b start?
you cant homologate a car for a type of racing and race it before the group is started.
it was built to group 4 regs.

Renault 5 Turbo
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search

Renault 5 Turbo
Manufacturer: Renault
Production: 1980–1984
Body Styles: MR coupé
Engines: 1397cc Cléon turbo
The Renault 5 Turbo or R5 Turbo was a high-performance coupé automobile produced by the French manufacturer Renault in the early 1980s. The car was designed for rallying, but was also sold in road-going guise.

Although the standard Renault 5 has a front-mounted engine, the 5 Turbo featured a mid-mounted 1397cc Cléon turbocharged engine placed behind the driver in mid-body in a modified Renault 5 chassis. In standard form, the engine developed 160 hp (118 kW). Though it used a modified body from a standard Renault 5, and was badged a Renault 5, the mechanicals were radically different.

The first batch of 400 5 Turbos was produced to comply with Group 4 homologation. A second version, Turbo 2, was introduced using stock Renault 5 parts in replacement of many light alloy parts of the original 5 Turbo. The original 5 Turbo was in retrospect called "Turbo 1". The Turbo 2 was much cheaper but had nearly the same levels of performance.
All the racing derivatives were based on the Turbo 1. The factory pushed the engine output up to 180 hp (132 kW) for the Cévennes, 210 hp (154 kW) for the Tour de Corse, and possibly as much as 350 hp (257 kW) in the Maxi 5 Turbo. These kits featured stronger engine internals and more efficient intercoolers.

Driven by Jean Ragnotti the R5 Turbo won the Monte Carlo Rally on its first outing in the World Rally Championship. The 2WD R5 turbo soon faced the competition of new 4WD cars that proved faster on dirt. However, it remained among the fastest of its era on tarmac where it was highly successful.

In 2004, Sports Car International named the R5 Turbo number nine on the list of Top Sports Cars of the 1980s.

ETAI, 2003, 128 p.
