I understand what your saying. But cosworth owners can be very passionate owners of their cars and may take it personal and feel your taking the piss out of them.

mate in my eyes for 15k you still wont get a perfect one, although you will get a very nice one I sold mine for 18.5k last month and didnt budge on price, sold in 3 weeks. I think your a little misguided as to Escort Cosworth prices.

33% less than what he was asking for and your reason is imaginary also,,,, i think you will find YOU was the rude one first and offended him,,,, so he returned the favour

and if cars get SNAPPED up that means there too cheep !!

a car will be for sale for over 2 weeks if its at its normal price with a few people looking at it and think about it before handing over the cash

16k is alot of cash for a ford these days,,,, means you have to wait for a person with the cash and is willing to pay

i thought thrush's car at 2k for a xr3i was too much cash but he sold it ( still dont know how), i cant belive people pay 10k for rouse sport saphs but they DO sell for that

just need the right person,,, and you CLEARLY gonna be JUST LIKE HIM

bet hen you sell the car you will expect either the same what you payed for it or MORE cause its a better one than the usual shite

now stop dreaming and look for a bargain,,,, you aint gonna rob a escos owner like you might a erst owner who dont understand what things are worth

sorry but there is good ones about for 15k,, thats about the average the decent ones start at

you got 18,5k,,, must have been a dam good spec or a person who was fed up of looking at overpriced shite

downside to the escos is the build quality so means there easier to make look worn out if they aint looked after like a baby

No mine was standard, Yes their are good ones for 15k, but people looking for perfect ones will still pay up to 20k and concours boys will go higher. A perfect one for 15k imo aint gonna happen

It's only been on PH for 16 days Mine was up for sale for over 2/3 months and I sold it for the asking price of £15.5k earlier this year, so I think you ought to review your knowledge and catch up with the real world.

I would have made more or less same reply to you as well, as your offer was not only insulting, but who are you to say what it was worth!

to be put off a car by finding the seller insulting is a little childish IMO

if you have the 16k as you have said, why not go view the car, there is no way you could consider a 31k escos as 'overpriced' without seeing the car in the flesh first

I would just have asked if the price was negotiable after viewing and gone for a look if he had said yes.

Selling a car is a nightmare and I have had so many rude enquiries on my cars, even some one liners that border on insulting.

I don't like to told how much my car is worth, especially just from a picture and he has probably had 30 people tell him that already because you don't see many at that price.

He could have been a bit more polite with the reply, espcially the die part but until you have put up with enquiries like yours all day long for months, it is hard to appreciate.

That said, you don't get if you don't try.

by the sounds of it you were a bit rude to him, so he was rude back

to all those that say it's worth the asking price - why hasn't it sold then?

tbh mate i think you were out of order,if you had offered 14k then that would have been reasonable but to offer what you did was just plain insulting.you havent seen it in the flesh for a start and obviously dont realise what a proper escy goes for.
with the amount of time wasting twats out there who phone up for cars i wouldve told you to fuck off too.sorry but if you want a serious decent reply from a seller be a serious considerate buyer and make an offer thats real.

All is fair in love and war. To be put off by a guy who is clearly passionate about his car and knows wat it's worth is mental.

Go back to him, say sorry and make him a real offer. Or hang about and wait for that £15k 'bargain'.

Buyers market, you wait on them, not them on you.

I agree, theres NO WAY you can get a 'perfect' escos for £15k. If anyone thinks you can get my idea of a perfect one for £15k then ill have 3 please. As everyone knows, peoples idea of 'mint' and 'perfect' etc are TOTALY different.

Burned alive, out of intestet have you actually been to see any yet and compared a £12k car to a £15k+ example?

Theres a difference between making a low offer, and blatently making an insulting remark such as "thats not worth 16k, I'll give you 12".

Should of just said you were a bit short and could only rustle up £12k, is that anywhere near.
Exactly right mate.

i used to put nfi or nftw on my adverts when i sold rs's in the
autotrader ,i would then get people phoning asking
what it ment
when the autotrader asked me what it ment they stopped me
doing it

its a good job it was only a email and not 1 hr looking at his car
and then a obligatory thrash up the road, then a bid in the bollocks

Its difficult selling a low mile good example cossie, as lots off toss pots want to waste your time...
As many have said a resonable reply.
In my eye offering below asking price when you haven't seen the car is a no no.

Dave Ridge

Exactly right how can you value a car you havent seen, i'm trying to sell mine at the min and the amount of complete tits there is on the phone every single day is unbelievable tbh. I think the problem with selling escort cossies is the price of them varies so much its untrue, 15k will get a complete nail or a good car as there valued by the owners who some of which are just chancers asking top money for a plop.

I can put me left knacker on it 15k would buy a very nice example but 12k is an insult for what seems a really low mile top example car.

If it was a 'run of the mill' car, then yes id agree with you, but its a specialst car with a very limited market. If it is a good one and genuine mileage, then it will sell for what he wants for it. As said, many have had theirs up for months and without serious interest, but they do end up selling.

Not to mention the fact that its probably only advertised on pistonheads, which again limits the market even more, so the seller is obviously in no real rush to sell, as with most owners of cars like these.

I agree mate you can get nice ones for £15k, but not a perfect one as he suggested.

The only way to find out if 'its worth it' is to go and take a look at it and compare it with a few others that are priced above and below what its up for.
