Default Problem with wireless networking... sorted

I've just got myself a Belkin wireless G router/modem and a wireless USB adaptor and I'm just trying to set it all up.

So far I've networked my XBOX to my PC, the 360 to the PC (and XBOX live) which are all going through ethernet cables.

The problem I'm having is the adaptor on the PC upstairs is sensing the router but it won't or can't connect to it...

Anyone got any suggestions?

Have you setup the wireless network yet. Probably best to connect the PC to the modem/router via ethernet to set it all up first.

Unless you can move the modem/router upstairs, and you've read the manual for setup and getting no joy, then a physical connection to the router is your best bet for configuring.

ok mate cool, there's no point moving the router upstairs as the only phone point is down here next to the PC

Its no biggy bringing it down though, I'll do it 2moro when I get up

thsi is the only bit thats been a pain in the arse, all the other connections were easy!

Whats confusing - get it to generate a hex key for wep or whatever you choose

Go to your pc's network connections page, right click the connection, select properties, select wireless network tab, select your router name click properties and enter the hex key from above

its confusing cos I haven't had much sleep

Right so I set the WEP hex kep up on the main PC, go to the PC upstairs (wireless linked) and put the generated key in where you have just said?

Wep key is generated from within the router

log in from your wired pc via your 192.168. x . x address to change things.
