Default help needed escort si

my escort 1.8 si runner around has had a idle problem for a wile where the car idle was all up and down and the car nearlly stalled so i took it to a local garage who informed me that the idle contol valve needed to be cleaned which they did ut also said if the problem came back the idle control valve would have to be replaced, so i drive the car away from the garage all happy til about 5 miles down the road the problem came back slowly , but idled high around 2k and just bounces around that mark, so i get a new idle control valve from ford making sure i get the right one as for list arond 3 for the car along with a new gasget for it. after having a nightmare getting the old one off and fitting the new one the car still has the same high idle so any advice would be much appricated
thanks Paul

common fault with them, you could take the idle control valve out and clean it but its probably buggered, they are situated right at the back of the engine, awkward to get at, think they are around £55 from ford for a new one

Just try disconnecting the vss, follow the spedo cable down to the gearbox and find the wire that comes off the black lump thats the vss should have a black 3 pin plug on it disconnect that and i bet the idle drops ok but the car will now stall every now and then when pulling up at junctions obviously if that cures the problems your having then source another one

dunno if this will help getting to the bottom of the problem but found out that when you turn the air con on while the engine is underload from the air con you hear a relay click and the revs drop to where they should be but as the air con takes the load off the engine you here the relay click back out and the revs come back to bouncing around the 2k mark until the relay comes back in again.

Ive had two escort 1.8 si and the old one and this one does that sometimes, only until the engine warms up though. Sometimes when its cold and you start it the revs are well random and then it stalls, never worked out what it is though.

i have a escort gti and had the same problem. we thought it was idle valve, but a friend took off the throttle sensor and it idled fine, and continues to do sp * touch wood*. so maybe u have a loose connection, or need a new throttle sensor?

ive had about 5 mk6 escorts in my time and every zetec engined one has had idle issues at some point in its time with me. Its a common fault and is a total complete fucking pain in the arse. Ive replaced idle valves before which cures it then it just comes back. Throtte position sensor is another it could be, as is sumit called a pc valve or summit, on the front of the engine block. mass air flow sensor can cause it sometimes, thats the one on the pipe goin from airbox to inlet manifold.

My escort si which i had for 2 and half years had every sensor etc replaced in that time an it still idled rough which pissed me off. I would be goin into ford, spend £60 on a sensor, put it on, then nothing changed, that was stressful to say the least. Then literally few days before i sold the car, i had said i would get it serviced for the new owner as it was due one and i asked the guy at the garage to have a quick look at the idle problem. He said all he did was clean up the sensor plugs, but fuk me did it idle beautifully!!!!! then i sold it lol

it can also be caused, so ive been told, if one of the pipes has a crack or hole in it, hence causing a air leak

good luck mate

small breather valve rh front of engine by exhaust manifold ----crank pressure valve , clamp the pipe off if that cures it rthen replace the valve , just pulls out , it goes into a black box fitted to the front of the block
