Default Cossie steering pump question...

I think my steering pump may have a problem, as i have some strange feelings in the steering now, even if I have had a properly rebuilt steering rack. So, i think it may be the "pressure bypass valve" that's faulty. So, 3 questions :

1) what's the exact name of this valve, as i know it in French of course, but don't know how to ask the exact part in english

2) is the steering pump the same on Sapphs and Escort Cosworth?

3) Can this valve be bought separatly from the pump? (French Ford dealers say no, i have to buy the complete pump )

Thanks for your help

You do have to buy the complete pump, but you do NOT have to buy from ford!!
It is possible to repair these, so would be worth a hunt for a repairers that do specialise in power steering systems/racks etc.

Its the same pump on the whole cosworth range - just sited differently depending on model and pulley type

You would be better off just buying a good used one if you cannot get it rebuilt locally

The later dohc xr4x4 also has the same pump if you can find one in a breakers

They are normally called a LIFT VALVE in pumps, same job as pressure releif.
