Hi Paul, the road 500's used the same diff as the 3dr, the 9" diff's were fitted to the Grp "A" racer's from about '88 onwards.
There were a couple of variation's of 9" diff also.

Hi Dan, the 9" diff's were the Australian "Harrop" made unit and the European "Ford" unit, the CW&P's are different but both are still huge.
The Aussie diff has a spigot bearing to carry some of the loading on the pinion.
Some of the early race car's used a 7.5" diff with a solid mount backplate.
