Default When downpipes go wrong LOL *Got 90° bend now!*

Engine started to make a bit of a growling noise the other day, lifted bonnet to find this

So have ordered a nice new 90° bend to be fabricated to the existing turbo flange and bottom part

Here it is off the car, it actually managed to rip

Big thanks to Tony C who is going to have a look at it for me.. Cheers pal

Also I took off the backbox in the process of removing it, and now it fookin wont go back on.. tried grease, wd40 the lot.. Its not the normal rubber mount its a bright orange one, so its more robust than the standard one..

Any ideas how I can get it back on?

Thanks Christian!!

The previous owner bodged that up... As Christian stated, it probably sees temps in excess of 800°!! and with it heating up and cooling down, a simple weld isnt going to hold...

temperature cycles don't make good welds crack

i would suggest that not only you replace the downpipe with one with smoother radius bends if possible, but to also look at the support of it and the rest of the system

i had the bracket on my mongoose decat on the focus crack off like that. I have solid exhaust mounts so i think the engine moving caused it. I just got some uprated gearbox mounts tho to stop it moving as much and have the decat rewelded.

Yeh indeed I will, as I dont think there was anything supporting it at all apart from the back box rubber So obviously this would have contributed!

Radders, yes we made that. I had some donor parts, but there was ALOT of custom work there.

My new set-up will be nicer though.

surely the heat shouldnt fook that weld up, and your not likely to get a smooth inside, with penetration, without purging it anyway?

C&B that looks sweet! Is it all a one off? Are you going to try a one of manifold at any point?
