Hey a few months ago i leant this lady i worked with £25. I know its not a lot of money, and if it was a friend i wouldnt be bothered but she is refusing to give it back to me and abusing me when i ring up saying im hassling her family cos they fones rings and its distressing? and she called me a fucking bitch when i rang and said shed send it but conveniently its the only item ever sent to this address thats got lost... coincidence? its not so much the money im worried about but the principle that i dont see why she should just treat me like this, shes 35 and im only 19 so its like she doesnt give a shit and shes very highly strung and now wont answer her fone, ive been round to her house a few times but shes never in... what can i do? im going to uni in a week and im reluctant to just forget about this as shes caused me so much stress and hassle... ive spent over £10 in fuel and calls trying to get hold of her... what can i do?

Difficult one.......... Personally I rarely lend people money for this very reason (except family, very close friends etc). It depends on how you view your relationship with this person i.e. expose them to others and hope they get embarrased and pay up etc, etc .......... or just smack her in the mouth and tell her she's bang out of order then take £50 from her purse

without sounding rude.. shes not really my kind of person. i think its a background thing, but hers isnt something ive experienced before. i guess im a little naive about these things... the society that i was brought up in was so honest and trustworthy that i didnt really appreciate that people would be quite happy to take money from u like that... to be honest even tho its only £25 its completely thrown my trust for people, which is pretty sad. thing is she seemed really nice and was really nice about my boyfriend and now its like shes jsut thrown it back in my face and taking the piss. shes on benefits and stuff but she buys all desinger clothes and make up and wants to buy a bmw, and besides, this isnt her money to spend. it really hurts me that people are like this in this world.

If you still work with her confront her very loudly in front of other workers and the boss. Usually that'll get them to give you the money if not everyone will know what kind of person she is and always keep bringing it up. Sooner or later she's going to get tired of hearing about it and give you the money just to shut you up. Either that or she takes a swing at you then that gives you a reason to beat her ass.

i left a message on this womans answer fone pleading for her to give me my money back etc... and im not an aggressive or argumentative person. she has just rung me back saying that she has no money and that shes pregnant and cant pay me back cos she has no money... yet she gets child benefit and shes working. and she was screaming at me down the fone and saying all this stuff about how she was going to call teh police on me etc... and that i was causing her stress when she was pregnant, and i pointed out that the last thing i needed after losing my boyfriend was this stress... so my mum told her she would call the baliffs and this woman went mad telling me that my mum was a fucking cunt ( a word i find possible the most disgusting) and a whore etc.... and she told me that i didnt deserve my money back for hassling her... ive rung every few days occasionally leaving an answer phone message and shes never rung me backk,....

this has really upset me... some people are horrible.

Sorry to hear this and sadly there are some real losers out there who think that they can just blag their cash, benefits, TV, etc without having to work for it.

Don't stress about it, though - neither her or the amount of cash involved is worth it.

Is there someone else at work, that you both know/respect, who could be an intermediary? If not, it wouldn't be unreasonable to tell any other workmates what has happened so they don't make the same mistake as you, though this gets quite close to slander territory and could come down to your word against hers.

I don't think the phone abuse, signing on to mailing lists etc is the best way to solve this, as it most likely won't get your cash back even if it does give you some satisfaction, but if you do go down that route it may be best to let some dust settle first so she doesn't know it is down to you.

*UPDATE* hmmm... i dont work with this woman anymore, but i finally managed to keep her on the fone long enough to say that i may be young but im not stupid and there is no way she is getting away with paing me £5 per month, i couldnt give a monkeys is shes on benefits. she finally said i could go round at 12 today to get my money.

12.30 comes and shes still not there... i ring... and ring... so i leave a message... 15 mins later i get a call saying... (wait for it)...

shes her friends birthing partner and shes gone into labour... and i should be grateful that shes come all the way outside to ring me?!!!

so apparently ive got to go round tomorrow to collect it 'first thing'....

Although it would be great for you to post her number I don't think it's fair on you, she'd be pretty pissed off with you and would probably realise it was you after 100+ calls, but that would only enfuriate her,I'm afraid life does suck sometimes and this just may be one of those times where you just gotta think of it not as a mistake, but a lesson learnt.
