ONE MINUTES SILENCE...PLEASE :-)
On Saturday as a mark of respect to the victims of 9/11 Stu locked all the boards for a minute.
My dad lives in New York and his office is next to what used to be the twin towers, and we knew had workers/ friends that died there. It was good that everyone stopped to think at that time.
Today at 11am UK time there is a European minutes silence for the people who were killed in the Russian School Siege in Beslan.
As a parent this hit home to me as it was first day back at school for my kids too, and it make you think how lucky I am really.
If you don't have kids, it probably won't mean as much to you as those with kids, but imagine for 1 minute your niece, nephew, brother, sister, mum, dad, all under seige, by some crazy fckued up mad men, who are going to kill people regardless.
If we have a minute silence, think how lucky we really are.
Cheer Chris.
I'll get off my soap box now- scared of heights

PassionFord will be closed for 1 minute at least and replaced by this notice:
PassionFord is Closed for at least the next 60 seconds in respect of the European 1 minutes silence for the victims of the Beslam School Siege in Russia.
They were celebrating the start of the new school year with parents and staff on the morning of Wednesday, September 1, when a heavily-armed gang took them hostage.
The crisis ended in massive bloodshed with the deaths of at least 368 people, including 30 rebels and 11 members of the special forces after bombs rigged by the hostage-takers went off inside the building, and Russian troops moved in. Half of the dead were innocent children, who were celebrating their first day of classes at Middle School No.1 when the rebels attacked their school in the town of Beslan in the North Ossetia region bordering Chechnya.
Please respect our 1 minutes silence in tribute to all the victims, with a special thought spared for all the innocent little children who were slaughtered.

i will be doing this. lets hope other people observe this as well, as even though its not in our country etc, it was awful what happened, and we shouldnt be narrow minded about it. we should all, as a world, observe this.

Why not for the people of Afghanistan, Iraq, Sudan. They Chechens? The Palestines, The Israel's? What about the children killed at Dunblane (can YOU remember the date?) What about the Omagh (sp?) bomb, that was in a packed shopping centre. Think a few children persished there as well.
The events you mention were TRADEGIES. I will not condone or seek to nulify their impact on the people affected. But 100s of Children die every week in countries around the world. Through starvation or infection or civil unrest. Yet we dont shut up shop. If anything we change the channel, or ignore it. We forget just how lucky we are in the 1st world. How our children dont die before they reach 15.
I can understand relatives of those who died remembering it. But to me (at least) I have no link with them. And sadly I cannot generate all the faux sorrow for them simply because the media thinks I should.
Flame on, as I realise that a lot of you enjoy that...

Re: ONE MINUTES SILENCE...PLEASE :-)
Rich W that is your opinion and in some respect you are right. I guess if we had a minutes silence EVERYTIME a tradegy happened we wouldn't get any work done
You don't have to take a minute silence, its out of respect.
Sums it up nicely
I was asleep at the time, and i'd like to think i respected the minutes silence.

O/T slightly. I hate when any post on this forum just turns into a slanging match. I dont agree with a lot of what I read on here. But I dont feel the need to slate every one for their views. I try to remain attacking the view with a counter argument, not just saying "you're a prick"

Rich
instead of spouting your beliefs try using a bit of restraint at a time when people are feeling sensitive towards these things after all there is a time and a place to speak and a time and a place to pay your respect

Hold my hand up time
Im still going to try and salvage this My points ARE valid for when you locked it on Saturday. 3 years on I dont PERSONALLY agree with. I started to digress onto the 11 September thing becasue I was trying to find the picture for the other post.
As for Russia. Same point remains. Wheres the symapthy for others who died around the world today, and yesterday, and the day before. What about the 47 Iraqis that died today? The estimated 100 Sudanese kids who died TODAY.
Are we going to mark this event next year? Bet not one of you will remember!
A2D I feel.

Rich W, it's a simple one, it's out of respect. that's all. If you don't agree then fine, just don't post. There are So many other post on this site that I am sure you would rather read and reply to! Simple isn't it?
Oh, and and as far as the Bombing of Japan. What would you call a surprise attack on a country that was trying to make peace with them? I can go on, but I won't Respect for all the families that have lost loved one's under "TERRORIST" attacks.
