WHICH JAP CAR-P1 IMPREZA or EVO 5??????HELP?UPDATE 30/03!!..
Hi guys the cossie was sold not so long ago and end of august will have the funds in place to treat myself to............please help????
SCOOBY P1- cars going for about £10-11k looks nice might have to wait til oct/nov to save the extra cash
MITSI EVO 5-looks A1 will have £8-8.5k so will defo get a nice one for my cash also plenty to chose from will defo have a car for end summer.......
Want to ideally have a car end august will defo have £8-8.5k cash to play with now the P1 is the only scooby i want exclusive etc but are fetching £10-11k upwards witch will mean me having to wait til nov to get the extra ........which ever car i get will be driven in all weather,Im in swindon and my sister lives in somerset and friend/family in bournemouth area so will be going there loads so lots of b roads , which will be the best car in terms of grin factor?, will do the odd trackday and trips to nurbergring aswell..... ,
INTERIORS- i know its typical jap but which outta the 2 has the better build quality, im buying a car for its power/grin factor and external looks but having gone from bmw's will be a shock on quality i know , which has the better seats aswell? gotta o the job in holding me when im motring on all those b roads
RELIABILITY- which is the most reliable/servicing costs and tuneability??wanting induction kit/full exhaust and 320bhp ish....sevicing costs not an issue as will be kept tiptop whatever i get
Mainly want a car i can drive every minute im not working in all weathers etc and would ideally want one end august(but will wait a bit longer for the P1 if its loads better etc), i know people will say look/drive both but i thought id ask some basic questions here first and then go looking/test driving........was P1 all the way but having to wait til end nov will be hard then looked into evo 5 prices and there a bit cheaper and more to chose from, i know the evos will be slightly older but mileages will be similar etc and both look ..will be getting a silver/white evo and oviosly will have to be sonic blue for the P1, so liking the idea of the evo as it will take less time to keep clean etc...so please can u leave ur opinions to help my quest...
cheers all

arent the p1's vunerable to a lot of engine problems.i seem to remember someone telling me they raised the compression on them or used different heads or something and they are forever letting go.
defo an evo 6 over a p1 though

P1 for me as well. Better engine noise, personally think it looks better aswell. Not too sure on the whole constantly letting go comment though.

Based on the lack of reliability ive seen on P1's people I know have owned, I would go for the evo 6, also I think the P1 is horrifically overpriced compared to a "normal" sti of the same age or an RA etc, it just doesnt have enough benefits to justify the cost difference really, you are simply paying for the badge largely IMHO (like paying twice as much for an RS500 versus a 3door)

think im going to get a white 98 s reg evo 5 as ive spoken to a few specialists/tuners and all have agreed that the evo5 will suit me more and will mean ill have one for my planned time of end august, they also said theres not a great deal of difference between the evo5 and evo6.....when i get it if its not already fitted a blitz nur muffler exhaust and blitz air filter fitted then a front mount uprated cooler and remap for a nice 330bhp....then some advan 8.5" 18" alloys bit xpensive but look oh and the defi gauges and boost controller ....cheers all......................roll on winter

well ive just come back from driving 2 cars the dealer had in stock and all i can say is FUCKING WOWEEEEEEEEEE!!
1st CAR....-2001 y plate 71k scooby STi bug eye shape interior very nice for a jap car soooo much better than the p1 ill be looking at!!! seats were simply awesome the car was standard bar blitz exhaust and blitz ind kit, the car sounded lovely with the flat four roarng away, took the car out of gloucester on a 15 mile blat down 7-8 miles of country lanes dual carriageways and through built up areas the car handled well and accelerated very well...look wise fucking ugly on the outside interior not bad...7/10
2nd CAR....- 1998 R reg silver EVO5 full blitz nur muffler, blitz induction kit, front mount cooler and fully adj TEIN suspension, took the car on the same route and all i can say is fucking wow,the noise made so many heads turn and got a few waves etc, the outside looks so nice with all the bulges and vents in the right places the handling was unbelievable very hard but was simply the best handling car ive ever driven , the acceleation upto xxxmph was so rapid and smooth and the brembo 4 pot brakes hauled it down so fast........interior was also surprisingly very nice and the recaro alacantara seats gorgeous , 9/10
CONCLUSION without a shadow of doubt the EVO5 wins hands down i know the STi i took out isnt a P1 but the dealer said its as good as one the P1 is basically a STi but u pay all the extra £££ for the name and small changes etc and the bugeye scooby has a better interior and moe solidly made..... the P1 interior is shite compared to the bug eyed scooby also like some people have mentioned the P1 has a few engine issues that if they fail will mean expensive rebuilds etc(he said the car is simply awesome but compared to the EVO5 the EVO is a more rawer b road car) which is what i want..and a bit cheaper aswell so there u all go im still smiling 2 hours later after the EVO5 drive.........roll on august i cant wait

Tough call, the Evo 6 will always be my favourite Evo bar none (followed by the 5). Best looking one too IMO. The 7 onwards seem to be a bit too toned down looks-wise.
But....the P1, they just look fuckin amazing
Really feel for you mate, having to choose between those two... :P
My uncle has a WRX STi bug eye model (51 plate) and he loves it to bits (though im not too sure about the dump valve ) decisions decisions eh ?

Well after the test drive i fell in love with the evo5 it looked a1 handling was superb and would make my ideal all yr round car that ive been looking for so..........mummy and daddy offered to lend me the £££££...so rang the garage and arranged a second viewing and testdrive..the salesman left me to look over the car and even offered me a pen and paper so i could write down any faults , all i found was a slight oil leak on the rocker gasket, tiny bit of flaing paint on the naca duct on bonnet, scratch on lower splitter and rear indow regulator plying up...so he's gona sort all of it and give it a full service 12 months mot and full valet...result .....so I BOUGHT IT ...gona pic it up 28 april after said minor work has been carried out and all docs have turned up ....insurance is only £403 f/c aswell....YAHOOOOOOOO, sorry no pics yet but when i gt it ill post up

i love my escos to bits, running 358bhp BUT and a BIG BUT my mate took me to croft on sunday and we done about 40 laps of the circuit in his STi8 with PPP and other goodies about 335bhp and all i can say is bloody hell, i have never thought of imprezas of a car i would have but it opened my eyes alot. really liked the 6 speed box and and the torque was unreal. wel impressed made me realise that cossie's are great but in this day and age so are alot of other cars.

COSSIE 1 you made a good choice imo
when you get bored of the performance fit a walbro pump (75 quid off ebay) get it ecutek remapped (£500), should see power up to around the 350/360bhp mark with torque around 330/340lbft, running @ 1.4 bar as opposed to the standard 1bar... still nice and reliable too
but pics or stfu
