Double de clutching? Is there any point in a modern car?
As above really, I always thought gear boxes in new cars had a modern technology which meant it was not needed. But I know someone who still does it in a modern car and wonderd if there was any need to?

No, it's not really necessary given all modern cars have syncro boxes.
Imagine trying to teach your average 17y/o Sharon the art of matching revs to gears when downchanging
My Dad taught me when I was learning to drive, and I prefer to double clutch all downchanges, rather than feel the resistance of the syncro. It's no hassle at all when you're doing it out of habit

Had to practice this as I had a renault years ago!!, kept snapping clutch cables so carried a spare after fisrt few snaps.
I never did this double declutch stuff though just used, take out of gear and blip throttle if changing down or up and catch the cogs with gentle pressure worked 100% perfect all the time no grindiong whatsoever, hardest part was starting off and stopping, had to start in gear on stater poor thing.
Considering what the clutch does how can it make any difference pressing it twice /
