im going to say no
as the law changed regarding towing a good few years ago
i passed my test in 1999 and im not allowed to tow a trailer with acr or van
i have to sit a course
so seeing as your 20 i dont htinkit sgoing to be possible
but this is from what i read when i forst passed my test and what i was told
but im sure its correct but could be wrong

PassionFord Post Whore!!
you will need to do a trailer test as thats what I had to do as i past my test after june 1997.
for you to know a trailer -
your towing vehicle weight, your trailer weight and the weight that can be carried in your trailer must not exceed 2.5 tonnes if it does a test eill be required

just found this
Car licences obtained on or after 1 January 1997
Drivers who passed a car test on or after 1 January 1997 are limited to vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes maximum authorised mass towing a trailer up to 750 kgs, or a vehicle and trailer combination up to 3.5 tonnes MAM providing the MAM of the trailer does not exceed the unladen mass of the towing vehicle. You will need to pass an additional driving test in B+E if you wish to tow a caravan or trailer combination which exceeds these weight limits.
which means i can if its a small car!

the answer is no
you would have had to passed your test before 97 to be able to tow, or even drive anything above 3.5 tons
seeing as you would have been 10 at that time i seriusly doubt that you would be able to have gained a licesne back then
so yes, you can drive the sprinter, but no you can't tow anything

PassionFord Post Whore!!
In summary then;
No you can't tow a trailer with a car on it on your licence, behind a 3500kg van.
Yes you can at your age if you take a trailer test, which costs £89, including answering one set of these questions:
http://www.direct.gov.uk/prod_consum...dg_4022725.pdf
And carrying out some simple driving tasks with the van / trailer combo.
And unless you are employed/ self employed and the combination is being used for business use where your driving hours are regulated you don't need a Tacho fitted or in use.
