Default Cosworth Intercooler advances...

Went to A+H fabrication today, on speaking to alex the owner he is redesigning the intercoolers due to the fact the 60mm core one has been now mass produced and so mass produced now he felt it was time to move up a notch....

the new spec cooler will be the same thickness as usual 60mm but the flow WILL be better than anyother similar, will be a better fit and due to the new design, also the ACT's should be lowered to by the result of design....

now thought this may interest a few people due to there being so many companies offering the same thing. its always good to hear of people trying to inprove on what is available...

my car and another will be the first to be fitted with the new one and if anyone is interested i can post pics up of the swap and difference from old to new .. also any test will be not a problem...

the intercooler will be the same as PAT DORAN uses on his rally cosworth which alex tells me is one of the quickest rally cars out there...

overall this will hopefully be another breakthrough, solving the problems of poor flow/high ACTs etc as not all of us can be fortunate to fit a huge 100mm thick cooler due to the space issue.

will update this over the next week or so as the new cores are arriving tomorrow be good to hear people input tho???

Yup - sounds good. I hear that the Original RS500 item is better than the copies.

well unfortunatly the 1 bad point to all this is his price for the old style coolers was about Ł330 but due to the new design its due to rise to about Ł390 he said BUT for what you get tbh its cheap...

p.s this is not a for sale add by no means just trying to give people the best info on this possible

Ad, his is a rallycross car, and he pedals it real fast

IIRC he retired from rallying in 1993/94.

TBH 390 isn't expensive- if i didn't have a pro-alloy wideboy jobbie to fit, I'd be interested!
Good luck in gathering interest!

sounds good , and i'm not knocking it, but it's easy to say all of those things

it's all meaningless without proper test results, and you're never going to get them as very few companies producing intercoolers (except Behr that made the original rs500 ones - not that it means they have not been surpassed by now - and a few others that most people have not heard of as they supply OE ones) have the proper test facilities or are willing to pay to use others.

How are you going to test these coolers and validate the results?

Simple "it feels at lot faster" comparisons are useless.

I shouldn't imagine the differences between a normal RS500 cooler and this supposedly great new one will be that different that you could repeatably measure it in anything other than a precise climate controlled environment.

garage19 you forget i no not much about this all i was told by alex is he can GUARENTEE this will be better than anything else out there.... you would need to talk to him about proper testing etc

also i cant reveil too much into why this will be better as i have been asked not too but A+H are utilising things that some other companies are not...

i have asked alex to email me better info on it so all the doubters and questioners can hear what he has to say...

he has already had pre orders of this new one so what does that say...

any questions why not email him?

IMO a rally cross car is the wrong type to be testing intercoolers on as they dont do mega high speeds or spend lots of time on WOT high up in the rev range.

Time on the throttle is what kills most ACT's...

Back to back testing needs to be done on a runway with a 500 bhp car.

Measure the temps at the end of the runway and then you will find out whats best.

I'm 90% sure that OE 500 cossie coolers are NOT behr. They are not that efficient, and work due to their large size. The 2wd and 4wd cossie coolers are Behr, and are very efficient. The best coolers are the ones which are made of multiple Behr cores, eg 4 2wd cos welded together.

fact is, overdriving a turbo gives you more performance at the expense maybe of life.

Say a 400hp t34 car, if u used the 'correct' turbo, it would probably be laggier.

Porkie - Defo defo defo?

I was at Karl's once, and he was proper slating them, which is why he started to use multiple 2wd units. This was a few years back now. Is the core thinner on a 500 unit? Did Mike not use a multi 2wd core setup at one point to?

the Genuine on one on my car had a behr sticker on it before we painted it.

It is much thinner than the Pro Alloy one on my car too but if you look at the cores the 500 one has alot more fingers and fins.
