Default 4x4 Transfer Boxes.. how much - where from?

Went for a rolling road session this week - but got sent on my way cos the transfer box on the cossie is a bit fooked!
Apparently - cos the rollers are independent, the difference in front/rear wheel speed would bollox it up completely
How much am I looking at for a new transfer box?
Can they be rebuilt?
Where from?

The guys running the dyno said its really common with Sapphires and Escort cossies.
Anyone else had this happen?

Or should I leave it to f**k up altogether and have some RWD fun??

hi bro

they are anything from £70 -180 second hand for a 4x4 front diff

my advice would be to put up an advert in the wanted forum

OR get one here http://www.atmsport.com/spares_ford.php?category=4

OR get one from a breakers from a 2.9 xr4x4 as they ARE THE SAME

hope that helps

Phil,
If there's nothing evidently wrong when you drive it, then it's probably the centre viscous coupling that's knackered - quite common by all accounts - but on the road with good traction, you won't even notice it's not working, and that's the way it will stay. To replace the VC isn't too bad, except that you have to dismantle a fair chunk of the box to get it out, which takes time... While you are at it, there is an uprated VC available, which isn't much more expensive than a standard one..

Had this problem started to lose drive to front wheels, at one point when Id launch it would light up the rear tyres like a 2wd good fun left it for a while only thing is it became very umpredictable(spell) letting lose with no warning..
Had mine rebuilt new vc and chain.was not cheap though cost just under 2K..
parts came to approx 1k. Totaly transformed the car went from 14.2 to a 13 dead on that repair alone..

Thanks guys!! Can always rely on PF!
Dean - £2k?! Fook me! I like Bbigman answer better!
Any one got a 2.9 4x4 going cheap?!
Stew205, I'm a bit warey about a 2nd hand box, have been told 70k is all they can be expected to do, and not easy to test.
I had no idea until it went on the rollers, although I did think it was a bit tail happy!
