Default ignition timing

can a low comp engine run more ignition advance than a standard one?

in theory I suppose so as the rate of combustion should be lower if the gasses are less compressed. You could run into problems with the flame front hitting the piston too early though.

Or am I talking pish?

i set the timing to 12 deg and it was flat on boost so i advanced to 18 and it feels quicker/ smoother,thers no det.its a low comp erst.

the further the advance the longer the mixture burns = more power

no it burns for the same amount of time

you want your peak cylinder pressure to happen at the point in the crank rotation where the lever on the crank is greatest
