Too close to car in front? Not paying attention? Or both?

Yeah, fine. It literally seemed like a small bump although the airbags going off and smoking the car out was a bit freaky. I thought for a couple of seconds that the car had set alight

I certainly think it looks a hell of a lot worse than it actually is.

a car coming in the opposite direction pulled across our lane to turn right infront of car 1, car 2 hit car 1 up the arse and i did the same to car 2.

So yes, too close to the car infront. Although only travelling at about 30MPH. My car really seemed to struggle to stop (disc brakes all round too )

Obviously my distance wasn't big enough as I hit him, but the fact the car infront didn't seem to hit his brakes until he had hit the car infront and the fact it was a big 4x4 with blacked out windows so you cannot see the car infront braking didn't help.

Good job my 6 years NCB are protected though!!

Sorry to see the damage to your focus Wont be too bad to repair tho.

Why is it brakes always seem so good when you dont need to stop fast but when you do need to stop they seem to work at only half their normal stopping power. Maybe as drivers we overestimate how good our brakes really.

I've spoken to the garage who without even viewing it have said it will be a write off as the airbags have gone. To me, the damage doesn't look that serious.

Anybody else hear of this?

The damage doesn't look that bad and it looks a little odd. The airbags going off must have been scary! Glad you're ok

If it's written off, then I assume it all belongs to the insurance company??

What will happen to my bluetooth carkit, smart nav system, 6 disc changer etc. Will I get that money back through the insurance?

They assumed that if the airbags has gone off, the front bumper would be too damaged to repair. Get them to view it first before writing it off for real.

wouldnt have though that would be a right off, front x-member etc on foci are all removeable.

depends of the a-pillar is still ok, as the window has smashed there.

the insurance assesor will decide if its a right off, doesnt matter about the airbags etc.

hope you get it repaired and sorted with the minimum of hassle, and in future, leave a bigger gap between you and the car in front

Well, they've just collected it, so i'll have to just wait for a decision.

If it's repaired, then that's fine if it's not I think i'll get myself a golf GT TDi 150. I've been thinking about getting one for ages, but with the mileage I do I didn't see the point in selling the focus just to buy another car to put a load of miles on.

But if the Focus has gone i've got a good excuse to buy one
