ive done two mtx75 conversions into mk3/4 escorts, both times i used unequal length shafts from mk5/6 tdi escort, i cut 10mm off the short one and 30mm off the long one and re-machined splines on the end of them at my work to suit the mk3/4 outer CVs. Im sure if you got shafts off of a focus someone could help out with the machining, do the same thing and help keep costs down?

if doing the mtx75 box, i believe focus shafts could be used, as i said, id look through the ford section of the shaftec catalogue, thatl give a good idea of what inner cvs, length shafts and suitable outers that can be mix/matched to build suitable shafts. you may not need to have anything machined. i did a similar thing when putting a mk1 xr2 engine on a 950 box into a 1977 mk1. not only did the engine/box need moving over putting the shaft lengths out, the early mk1s had different spline counts on the hubs and shafts. I ended up using a mixture of mk1/mk2 fiesta joints with mk4 escort long shaft and a modified fiesta short shaft/joint. just through looking up the specs in the application book.

fairly common on modern fwd cars they come in 3 bits, the middle shaft from the offset gearbox to otherside of engine block where its fixed in position. The half shafts the same length either side hence 'equal length' however more torque will always be biased favoured nearest the gearbox side. It does not eliminate torque steer although goes a long way neutralising the effects.
