What spec PC for around £600
Did ask on here a few months ago what i could get for around £600 but other things came along so didnt bother to get one , and seeing as things move sooo fast in the computer world thought i would get a fresh answer.
Looking to spend around £600 and i just want the computer , monitor , and keyboard.
DVD copier is a must. Not a big gamer so stuff for games not essential
and i also want windows vista included
cheers

yeah dell is probably the best bet for a prebuilt computer, normally id always recommend someone who knows abit about pc's to build there own as then you can tailor it more to your needs and buy exactly what you want, plus save abit in the process but since you dont know anything then pre built is the only way to go, but there are good deals on the dell site so ill have a look through now

Depends what yo uwant it for really. Is it for general use, surfing, light video use (like the odd downloaded video clip and maybe a DVD or two) burning/ripping CD's, and MS Word etc, or is it for graphics intensive gaming, photoshop editing/graphic design, multimedia applications etc....?
Cos thats makles a big difference on the type of hardware you need fitting to it....
Put it into perspective - I bought an 18mth old Dell off ebay for £200. It's a 2.8 P4 CPU, and stock on board graphics and sound. I upped the soundcard to a digital one, and all I use it for is web, the odd MS Office thingymibob, burning/ripping CD's and DVD's, downloading media files (video, music etc) and very light mucking about in photoshop - it's is absolutely fine with all that Monitor, also Dell, 17" TFT - cost £75. Add to that a tenner for a basic keyboard and mouse, and thats abotu £300 for a full system

something like this will do you fine mate http://configure.euro.dell.com/dells...sftdppdesktop2
Its not top spec but it will seem like a rocket ship compared to what you have now
It wont be very good at playing games but you said you dont play games really, and it comes with a 20" monitor which is nice

Thrush i didnt re-spec it, all i did was find something suitable and copy/paste the link, i was going to let him play about customizing it, but that one you found would be fine for him
