All this talk about top speeds........
Ive been no where near the top speed in mine. Just think what effect a stone would have on the bodywork at those kind of speeds.
Although a good few years ago in my old cav i did a true 155 mph quite a few times without trouble. Wouldnt dare go anywhere near that speed on the road though now after realising how bad it could be if something happened.
I assume all these top speed lovers check there tyres properly for damage, wear and pressures etc before they attemp it.

An Escort Cos with out the rear wing should do over 140 if it's standard. There's a lot of drag/downforce with them on. I remember a mag trying a top speed run without one when they hadn't been out long, I'm sure it did about 4/5 mph more? If anyone remembers what mag it was I may well have it and be able to scan the article?

I think the problem i have with the escort is i ws expecting to much after owning my saph, which imo was a perfect spec for road use. I'm going to go for a 3 door or 500 next then that will satisfy my cosworth need for a while i hope

Most of the tests new they topped out at about 141 -> 143 on the bowl at Millbrook. They usually reckon about another 4/5 mph on a long straight to come oon top as the tyre scrub on the bowl is high at that speed

Limiter in 5th std tyre size, very long runway
circa 155-160ish depending on where my limiter was.... (T34, greens std comp etc) speedo was reading 150 a short while before, but didnt have the balls to keep looking at it
