Default Loom advice / info needed please

Hi folks,

Just in the process of swapping my standard 4x4 loom to a Dingy / Clawtel loom.

My car is a 4x4 Car, with L8 and PF09 TPS

The Dingy loom is a 2wd loom, bought ages ago from RichPON's old track car project. It has no markings on it (at Rich's request AFAIK) so I'm trying to work out what goes where.

Here's a pic of the first bit I'm unsure about:

In the pic, I can see in order from one end: The ECU plug, 2 diagnostics plugs. Then there is a spade connector inside some black shrink sleeve.

Where does this go? What does it do?

At the bottom of the pic there is a multi plug with a red and green wire etc going into it. What does this do / where does it go?

And coming in from the top of the pic there is a long lead with a multiplug and lead with a ring connector. This comes out of the loom by the spade connector mentioned earlier. Where does this go and what does it do?

Finally, for the moment at least On my car, to add to the confusion I have a 2wd head (4x4 car remember). It has a sender for the standard water temp gauge in front of the turbo, on the side of the head.

My 4x4 loom has a wire for this. The Dingy loom, as far as I can tell, does not have this wire in it for this. Any thoughts on why this is? Or what I do about it? I have an SPA water temp gauge so it's not life threatening, but I'd like to know any suggestions on what to do about it.

A few things to mention here:

I'm not good with electronics / wiring

I've not removed all of my original loom to compare the new one to, as if it seems/ is too hard I will just reuse my original loom for now.

I have asked Dingy for advice, and he has been very helpful with other questions I've asked. He reminded me that I will need to swap the outer wires over on the TPS lead for example I think though he has been too busy to look at the last email I sent him hence asking on here in the meantime.

Another reason I've not removed my original loom (which on the floor might well line up exactly with the Dingy loom) is my Vecta immobiliser and 2 alarm systems are all butchered into my original loom. If I bugger something up it may stop me getting my car going.

I thought I'd ask first, if it makes sense and will be straightforward, then I'll get the loom in there.

Any advice on any parts of this post are most welcome and much appreciated!

Simon

im affriad alot of the questions only dingy can answer as he built the loom.

regarding the WTS sensor, pons one was proabably for a 4x4 engine so the WTS would have been at the back of the engine and thus will have to be extended to reach your 2wd one.

If pons was a 2wd engine then it should have one at the end of the loom.

Again hard to tell, as i didnt build the loom.

Best of luck

Thank you Ryan, very kind of you to add your input, especially as it's not your loom I've got your coil pack loom to add on to this loom, that part makes good sense to me, but then it only has a couple of plugs!

Your point about Rich's loom being 4x4 engine is also probably valid - here's a pic of the loom near the coolant sensor on the back of the head:

In this shot there is a wire at the bottom of the pic, that I thought may be the oil temp sender at the back of the block, but from what you have said it could actually be a WTS sender wire.

Thanks again

Sib, rich had a 4x4 head on a 2wd car so the wire is for the water temp sensor on a 4wd head.

It can be used for oil temp if need be as long as the wires match up.

Normal Oil temp wires on a 2wd is not part of the cossie engine loom.

Oil temp wire is blue with a green flash
water temp is brown with a white flash.

So you will need to add the blue wire with the green flash - i can send you the parts for this free of charge if it helps.

At the bottom of the pic there is a multi plug with a red and green wire etc going into it. What does this do / where does it go?
Other wires would be.

Black - ingition live
Black/red or black/purple - fuel pump
Green - rev clock feed
red - battery(perm Live)

Connect into orginal loom.

At the bottom of the pic there is a multi plug with a red and green wire etc going into it. What does this do / where does it go?
Sheilded map sensor - the shielding is put to earth via the ring sensor - should be a brown wire.

I did email you back asking what parts of the loom you were not sure of the wires but you never replied.

Thank you so much. In one response, you've covered it all

I'm off down the garage now to bury my head under the dash with some new enthusiasm.

I did get your email mentioned in red above, and replied on Thurs or Fri just gone. Figured you were busy though with the Croft stuff and your work hence the post above- the email I sent basically was identical to this post anyway, so I reckon most of it is covered.

Incidentally, a year ago you PM'ed me a wire colour list (so I could tell what plug did what) and unfortunately it was deleted when my PM box got to 100%. Your customer service is ACE, and it's only my ignorance that is holding up what should be a simple job.

Thank you muchly

Simon

Do me a favour Si... if the diagnostic connector isnt standard, try and get the other half to fit it before you come up Norf so i can save time when connecting up the IAW datalogger.

Dingy may be the man to help with this.

Excellent, thanks Steve.

The IAW monitor has a male plug to fit the OEM 5 pin plug found as standard on teh weber looms.

If that socket is unavailable i have a lead converted with spade connectors if you can supply a suitable plug for your socket that we can attach spades.

Right, all the last few posts about data logging have gone over my head!

I'm happy to fit anything anywhere if needed. Or if I'm reading right, Steve is going to send the bits to Stu and he can stick em in himself.

Either way, if I need to do something, let me know in simplish terms and I'll do it!

***Edited cos I totally misread / misinterpreted what Stu was getting at ***

I think they are about £350 new.

Both Ryan and Dingy are the people to talk to for actual prices, and also if they can make one specced for your needs (perhaps coil packs / 8 injectors / air injectors or whatever you may have)

All sorted Si?

My old engine was a 200 block and 4x4 head, hence the wts etc, but I think everything else has been answered.

You still not fitted it though? I sent that to you about a year ago!

You're correct Rich, he still hasnt fitted it, and leaves it until 7 days before a live mapping session to even 'think' about fitting it.

Of course, he wasnt actually going to do it himself, so i had to go and spend all day on it yesterday with him removing the Vecta Immobiliser and getting the old loom out

Hopefully by about now the new loom should just about be in....
