Thankfully no-one has been killed according to reports

The last serious incident was in Tebay aswell - not too long ago - a freight truck rolled for about 6 miles and struck a gang of plate layers killing 4 of them

just clicked on that link (already seen it on yahoo news) an it says one dead in the headline

scary thing is, i sometimes get on that train to come home. go all the way from euston to crewe. so if i had wanted i could have been on that train an got off before it crashed thats a scary thought.

hope everyone else will be ok, does seem VERY serious!

also just realised my mate is at uni in penrith an thats next to that line!!!

After an Isolation has taken place (From memory, its Glasgow being the controling ECO there - telephone (internal 073 2172) you can then safely approach the OHLE once the P-Way staff have earthed it at a DEP. Perfectly safe then - hence the emergency services did NOT go near the train untill an isolation had taken place

Tim - there are rules and regulations in place for these types of incidents - the rulebook which ANYONE who works on the railway MUST adhere to is basically a book of accidents. It would not surprise me if in the next update in June 2007 there is an ammendment to a rule that is a direct influence on last nights events.

1 died

They was saying how well the train stod up to the impact. Also thinking its a dodgy point int he track, and this trck was worked on last week

Dont mean to offend anyone here, but the people who work on the tracks seem to be the most lasy people going. I have meet and seen a few more and they are always sciving and seems to be doing half a job when they was there

Down my mates who selling a car and a van load of them turned up to look at car and they was joking how they where suppose to be working on the clock Shame really, the tracks seem to be in a mess though, wasnt RAil track caught on panorama some time ago about amount of bad repairs etc?

As graceland said, emergency services would not have gone near it until current isolation was in place, this is basic health and safety regulations that everyone adheres to...he did say that pway applied earthing protection though, and in the emergency procedure anyone could start this chain of events and is fairly straightforward.
