anyone done a head on a toyota previa/estima diesel
apparently they are prone to heads cracking.bought one from the block yesterday and of course it over heated on way home-apparently its a common fault!
what sort of job is it

Oh god i HATE those things!
Most grey imports are fine, Pajeros instead of Shoguns, things like that...
But Estimas and Lucidas are a bloody nightmare.
They are NOT a Previa, no matter how many owners try and tell me they are.
They look similar - but they are a totally different car, and almost nothing listed for a previa fits a lucida.
Steer well clear!

now im confused-
topped the water up this morning(not much really) and have run it for 2hrs and its fine-heater is hot,pipes are hot temp gauge under halfway.
just been out in it and again ok,runs below half on the gauge,pipes are not pressurising,heater good........
i think ill run it for a day or so and see how it is-wondering if the stat was blocked,or it was airlocked

What he said i used to work for an import place did lots of the estima and lucidas heads and also the 2.4 hi lux was prone to doing heads

i have done a few .
commen thing is the head to crack due to a blocked rad . they advise to change the rad or at least get it flow tested when they overheat .
the times i have seen them the temp gauge always stays on half way but the pressure in the expansion tank is massive . normally the crack between the valves so it will go down on 1 cylinder and smoke like buggery .
the job it's self is ok . take out drivers seat and floor pan and it is all very excessable . The worst part for me is taking off the propshaft that drives the aux belt and viscous fan .there isn't much room to swing it out of the way to get the crank pulley off . Also there is 1 hidden bolt under the thermostat housing to undo .

ive used it all yesterday,not a hint of trouble,no smoke,heaters all good,no pressurising.took it up the m/way at 70 -ok.not used a drop of water.
when i collected it from the auction i only drove half mile and temp gauge was above half! but when i got it home that night i lifted the bonnet and it was steaming from the overflow but when i went to remove the filler cap i only moved it slightly and it stopped and when i topped it up in the morning it only took 2/3 litres of water.

...i had one of these and it did the same thing..i was told a cracked head...i traded it in sharpish ...dont be fooled by it not doin it for a while...cause it will return..very common fault..with these you either lucky or not!

sold it yesterday anyway-finger crossed its ok.
he knew about it previously overheating but took it for an hour and was happy with it before he bought it.he is a pal of mine so ive told him to keep an eye on it-sold it cheap though.

i apologise for my incorrect use of english.
i was thinking that maybe the thermostat had stuck in the "closed" position,thus not allowing the correct flow of engine coolant which may cause "hot spots".
any better?
