Will have to get a tape measure into the bay of a hilux, dont suppose you have measurements for the width? (other directions shouldnt be a problem but would make it more of a project than i want if it doesnt fit between the struts)
Will climb up to the top shelf (about 18ft up!) and put a tape measure across it tomorrow.

Chip

What about the Rover V8 in the Range Rover - certainly will have the desired sound (unless you are deaf!)

I have a friend who could provide you an engine for almost bugger all.

Shame, cos they are piss easy to work on. Even I managed to do a few bits and pieces (including head gaskets etc)

To be honest Chip - manual 540s are not that rare - usually cheapest as well as people generally want an auto

Click

I think there were more E34 540 manuals than later E39s if you can go for a 5-series V8?

There's usually one on Ebay most weeks, sometimes 2, as I often ponder buying one as a runaround

good spot, will watch what it goes for, but looks a bit tidy for what im after.

Would be great if it was crashed into before he sold it, perhaps I should pop round to view it and be careless with an old car, LOL

Fair play...I don't think you will see them much cheaper than about £500 for a complete car though.........I've been watching them for ages.

Good luck though!

If I was going to do something along those lines it would be a LET.
More economical
Less laggy
Cheaper to get bits for

But not really after going for a smaller engine with a turbo, want a v8 or a v6 or a S6

Ali, yeah i dont really care about a few extra kgs mate, so an old jag lump would be ok, but they really are massive.

Chip, just measured from turret to turret on my e39 540 and its 830mm, a bit tricky to measure the lump accuratley, approx 760mm inc ex manifolds,

Benefit of Supra engine is that it is Toyota to toyota - massively increases likelyhood of some cross compatibilty - and you could go for the turbo one!!!!!

I dont think being the same make is going to help out in terms of things fitting, im planning on running it rwd anyway so wouldnt even be trying to use the hilux gearbox (most hilux are 4wd and the 2wd box isnt exactly inspiring anyway)
If I went for a supra motor I would go N/A I expect, im not actually looking for 500bhp or anything like that, anything much over 200bhp that can take a decent dose of gas would be fine.
