So, what are we thinking the government will actually do if they don't do this? They aren't just going to let it go, are they?
There has already been talk that it will be abandoned, but they will hit us another way, like more fuel tax or road tax. We can never win.

Won't be abandoned, caught the tail end of something on the news this morning with Tony Blair that he thinks it's a good idea and that he will be emailing everyone who signed the petition

PassionFord Post Whore!!
I think everyone here agrees something needs doing even if it was just a little something,i dont know what exactly, but i felt that charging people just for driving to ear a living was wrong.
My wife only earns about £150 a week if the road pricing came in,she would lose about £80 each week to the government.
Personaly i see it as just another way to fleace the motorist as we are easy prey.

It probably would have been easier to ask who hadnt signed it and why.
Like most transport related things this government has done, its poorly thought out and going to be incredibly difficult to implement, but some private company will make a fortune out of the tracking boxes and some other company will make a fortune out of the computer system to run the whole thing and then like the CSA it will be abandoned as a bad idea and then re-invented, all the time wasting millions of tax payers money.
They are hell bent on these 'stealth' taxes because people are shit scared of income tax going up, if everyone just paid a little more tax, say there was a 45% rate for the top top earners then they wouldnt need to get the money in other ways
A country of this size needs a certain amount of money to run, it has to come from somewhere but as only so much can be raised by direct taxation they have to take the rest by 'stealth' and the motorist is such an easy target as they are over a barrel
This is all a by product of the Thatcher years.... when communities were decimated, British Industry went down the toilet and people were forced to 'Get On Their Bikes' to find work because it was no longer in the towns they lived in.
So people are used to travelling long distances for work now.
Schools have been closed, when I was a kid in the 70's and 80's I walked to every school I went to, no school bus for me, no lift from mother or father in the family car.
Hospitals have been closed
Public Transport has been pared back to the bone
All these things mean people have to travel in their cars more and more.
So instead of tackling these issues and improving public transport its easier just to tax people
This whole Green House Gas thing and Carbon emmissions is BOLLOCKS, we as a nation contribute only 2% to global warming, so if we cleaned our act up to 0% it wouldnt make a hapeth of difference to the world as a whole.
If you want to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere... STOP BUILDING HOUSES AND GROW MORE TREES !!
First year biology says that plants take carbon dioxide at night and convert it to Oxygen using Photosynthesis....
Its SIMPLE.

There was a big write-up in the sunday paper yesterday about how motorists get properly fooked over..more so in the last 5 years the amount they've *stolen* from us has gone up ££billions (and actual road/traffic improvements have been minimal in comparison
