As said above, between 22 and 25 normal driving. On the motorway at a steady 70 - 80 you will see between 30 and 34.

need to think really now im single the possibilities are massive now before the wife was scottish so i was doing 40-50kyr and had the dog so a nice everyday motor was outta the question really now heres a few ideas??
1. keep the cossie see pic...and keep diesel daily runner

2.sell the cossie and daily drive and get the E46///M3
3. sell cossie and daily drive and get 2 yr old audi 2.0Tdi 140bhp A3 quattro 4wd smg etc and get it chipped to 180bhp and over 300lbt torque ???
4. keep diesel daily runner and get a evo 6/7 and drive it everyday when im not working in all weather
5. keep daily runner and get a 2 seater....TVR cerbera 4.0 speed six or the 4.5 v8??, for the weekends??-THIS ONE IS LOOKING VERY UNLIKELY THO
6. sell cossie and keep daily runner and put the ŁŁŁŁ in the bank?? RATHER NOT

It might do that but you'll be doing 60 and no throttle at all!

Surely an M3 can reach 30-35mpg on a 70-80mph motorway run? I cant see the revs being that high at those speeds. Just because it has all that power, doesnt mean to say you have to use it? I dont own one and i dont know anyone that does, but still, if it cant reach those figures id be very suprised.

Your asking for ordinary fuel consumption from an extroinary car!!

There are some major differences - like aerodynamics and spoliers to consider. Its not just as simple as backing off and it becomes exactly the same as a boring Rover 216

i think the best i ever got out of driving like a old woman was about 28-29mpg but why have a e46 m3 and drive everywhere at the speed limit its all about enjoying the car.

if you want mpg buy a modern diesel as they are good fun and even if thrashed still return pukka mpg

sounds like you're better off with a 330ci or 330d

don't dismiss the non-M cars, as a luxury drive the 330 beats the M3, the M3 is just quicker at fast driving

Just looked the figures up, works out about 34mpg on a steady run, but about 24mpg combined and about 16mpg urban!!!!

Going by those figures, i reckon you could get 30mpg ata steady 70ish on a run.

Although if fuel consumption is that much of a major factor, id go for the 330d or 530d instead.

I get about 250 miles to a full tank normally, so about 24mpg that's driving motorways, town, etc. When I went to Watford I spent Ł300+ on fuel there and back, past the Angel of the North at 152 though and made it in 6 hours with a stop

if in chilled mood put cruise control on at 80mph always get 32mpg,
on track 11mpg,
24mpg on average
not the quickest of cars but but certainly a good allrounder cant beleive how much torque it has all through rev range well happy with mine had it 12 months now was gonna sell then tested a few other cars then kept m3

I've used mine every day for a while and manage 19 average, this is a mixture of flat out country roads and city traffic. On a run at 80 it'll do 30, as soon as you hit A roads it evens back out to 22. To get more than 30mpg you'd need to be doing 60 and never change gear - pointless!

Bear in mind fuel is the cheap part, servicing is Ł1000 for insp1 and Ł1400 for insp2 - tyres are Ł1k a set for 19's.
