Your opinions on Write Offs??
Well i am officially carless!!! and am on the proul for a new car, now i have seen a car that looks stunning, and it's within my budget, but it is 3k cheaper than it should be as it is a Cat C
Now the guy who has it, bought it as a write off and had the work done himself...he has all the engineer reports to say it is fine to be back on the road etc etc....and the insurance docs that say why it was writen off, so we can compare....
Now ive had 2 previous cars that were write off, one a D and one a C...
I am very tempted on this car, but what are your thoughts, i was thinking it may be hard to sell on but like i say its 3k cheaper than all the other similar cars of the same spec etc...so i dont THINK would be EXTREMALLY hard to sell on....
I know most of you may ask way not just go look at it.,......well its about a 5 hour drive away, so gonna take a god 12 hours to go view it
Your thoughts please people!!

Cat C is beyond economical, depends what was up, my friend bought a BMW which had been smacked up the arse, needed rear bumper, bootlid, lights and paint, BMW had quoted £2k so got wrote off CAT C, the guy bought it back and got second hand lights, bumper and bootlid, cost him £200, paint cost him £125, so £325, no structural damage and a perfect car

There are plenty of cars that have been bent seriously and repaired without being Cat listed, at least with a C or D you know it's been bent and repaired.
It will always sell for less than "normal" value but if it's cheap enough in the first place it doesn't matter.

i baught 2 cat c's recently, both pumas and both hardly damaged at all,in fact one we repaired with nothing other than bolting a front bumper, rear bumper and a bonnet on it,why it was cat c can only have been down to the cost of replacement new parts.

Sometimes cat C sounds worse than it is??? There's plenty of cars out there that have been in serious accidents, smacked up the arse, front ender etc but have been rebuilt/repaired to factory condition......Go on the drivers etc, if he's an old bloke then he'd maybe a safe better but if a young spotty little prick then walk.........................Depends how bad you want the car
Is it an Escos??

As above, recently got a 2000e Sierra for my other half. It was Cat C'd because someone hit the drivers rear door. Previous owner pushed the dent out, took it for the VIC test, and it passed. Got all docs. to prove it.

I wouldnt mind getting a cat C, if it comes with all the paperwork showing what was damaged and changed with engineers report then you have nothing to worry about

Paul - its on the south coast hence why i want peoples opinions before i make the 12 hour round trip for it
I personally have no issues with owning a write off unless its a Cat A/B, its just im worried about either 1) losing all my money on it, or 2) not being able to sell it on if/when i choose to get rid....
Although im convinced at the price its up at, i could sell it on quite easily tomorow if i really had too
Im thinking I may be having an early morning with a VERY late night!!!!!

Spoke to the guy again, to ask about the report he had etc, and its NOT an engineer report, its the report from the ministry to say its road worthy after the accident etc

Must be something pretty special to do a 12 hour trip for!
I've never bought a registered write-off but wouldn't have any qualms buying one.

Its impossible to give a proper opinion unless we know what car it is and what value the car is. If its a £10k car for example and proper ones are going for £13k, then its obviously not worth buying, but if its say a £3k car where proper ones are going for £6k, then it may be worth buying.
What im saying is, the value of the car would give us a better indication on the extent of the damage and whether its really worth saving £3k.

I personally would never buy a write off though unless it was exceptionally cheap, and i definalty wouldnt want to be shelling out more than a couple of grand on one.
