Roosie - not trying to offend, but it seems you get through a lot of cars, of which nearly all of them are cheap, but also rust buckets/have problems....
Surely buying these "bargains" is a false economy? Wouldn't you be better off laying out a few quid more and getting a car thats in tip-top shape that don't need half the car components welding to get through an MoT?????

just break it, not worth the hassle IMO once it gets to that stage!! there will still be corrosion on the car that hasn't been mentioned (not quite bad enough to fail the MOT,yet)

If the rest of the car is worth it do it.. if not fuck it off..
Dont be gay and sentimental about 1 less cossie on the road.. it means fuck all in the long run.

Fook me.......all this crying over a couple of brake pipes and a bit of welding.....
Take it to a decent garage or welding specialist matey and it`ll be a doodle for them, whip out your trim and carpets first and anything else that might be in the way to keep the price down.....
ABS probably got no bulb in,most people take out the lamp instead of sorting the fault,it`s usually minor(Sensor etc)

i remember my first saph..i was too excited about getting 1 i jumped in and bought the first one i viewed,it was a straight fsh standard flint grey h-reg,leather and stainless exhaust otherwise standard
it was raining when viewed so i missed slight rust bubble on roof due to sunroof channel being blocked, and i didint have proper look under it
2 weeks later i noticed rear chassis leg rotten
then next mot rear sill corroded
i got it welded up and punted
bought for £3500 and ended up swaping it for an mr2 and a celica gt...and got £5100 back for these 2

That said, the £2500 S1 I bought a year or so later turned out to be not fantastic either

This is so common. IMO there is no such thing as a cheap car. A car that is being sold cheaply will ALWAYS have a story of some sort with it.
In my opinion, you shouldn't buy a car unless you can either afford to buy one that you KNOW is good, which will almost always have a price tag condusive with that, or you should budget to carry out this kind of work.
People that own car's where the slightest thing that goes wrong may break them financially just beggar belief I'm afraid. Sorry Roosie.

when you do the inner sills do the properly and from the inside out, it will last 5 times as long, but it means you need to strip out all the carpet etc.
big job but do it once and forget about it

Definately worth repairing mate, some welding and a few brake pipes is nothing and wont cost that much to put right.
ABS fault is more than likely a sensor thats went down, easy enough to diagnose which one it is yourself just using a multi meter and checking all the sensor resistance values. Which ever one has the highest resistance is more than likely to be causing the fault.
Brake hoses are around 12 quid each and copper brake pipe to replace the corroded metal pipes is about 15 quid for a 25ft roll, few quid for the brake pipe tube nuts and your good to go.
Get a price from someone to do the welding for you if you cant do it yourself and keep the price down by doing all the donkey work yourself like taking seats and carpet out etc.
If the rest of the car is good then its def worth spending a bit to keep it on the road, too many good cars get scrapped these days IMHO !

tbh it dont sound bad at all
2brake pipes, bit welding and abs fault
get a good garage to sort it all and shouldnt cost too much or be off the road too long as long as they can get the parts easy enough
