ROVER 400 DIESEL STARTING PROBLEM HELP PLEASE.........
Hi all recently when starting my '97 p plate rover 420 turbo diesel its turning over but not firing up straight away (10-15 seconds), im turning the ignition on and waiting for the glowplug light to go out, if the car doesnt fire up within 5 seconds im popping the bonnet and using the manual fuel filter pump im forcing fuel through eventually it does fire up and alls fine....if i then turn it off it fires up fine straight away ......does this sound like i need a new fuel filter or do u think it could be a glow plug fault? or anything else?? cheers all..

i had the same trouble it was my heater plugs i changed them and it is
fine now ichecked them by puting a direct live to the plugs and the car
would start then so i new it was my plugs when i changed mine i only
changed 3 of them as one of them is behind the fuel pump and its tricky
to get to also change your filter its not dear

When the glow plug light goes out have you tried turning the ignition off then back on again to heat them again? If the glow plugs are on their way out I think this helps It has done in the past on a Espace, we just turned the ignition on and off 3 times waiting for the light to go out each time then it started.
It's worth a try.

It depends on the car. If you have access they are dead easy to change because there's typically a wire on the top held by an 8mm nut (roughly) and then you simply unscrew them like spark plugs. It all depends on the car though because on the espace I did I had real trouble getting to a couple of the glow plugs.

three are easily on the rover, one isnt becasuse its behind the fuel pump, i think you ve got to move the fuel pump and its not easy if you dont know what you are doing, so just change the three and see how you go
