FAO All 3DR Cossie Owners..
Just finished a setup on a fantastically clean 3dr and to cut a long story short, when i tweaked his boost back up from 10.5 to 15 it became apparent he had one of the early 80s chips that flags a boost fault and puts the Red management light on every bloody time you boot it... the previous owner had plainly turned the boost down so this wasnt apparent to the prospective buyer...
Anyway... As ive not seen this dodgy old software crop up for a few years, this has just set me thinking;
Q) How many of you still put up with this old software? Have you removed the management light as suggested by some tuners or do you just live with it coming on everytiem you nail it?
Just wondering really.. because it would really piss me off...

Saffs dont have em Lewis
Darrone,
It still may do it if the chips no good, it is only "Obvious" to folk with 3drs as only you lot have a management light on the dash to show you the chips crap
Porkie,
You should supply a "cleaning custard from expensive shirts" service as ive spilt custard on my new fooking shirt now from laughing at you!!

it only comes on once though dont it, so thats the first time the boost spikes off the end of the 3 bar map sensor lol
does leave you paranoid that you have no warning about any other errors that you may get before cutting the ignition next time, i used to sit there bridging the plugs in the loom and watching the light flas and translating the flashes pmsl soon got bored of that lol

We are talking about 2bar map sensors here Matt not 3bars as ive never seen a greens or larger file mapped badly enough to flash a boost limit fault, so i presume your talking about some old stage 1 file and meant to say 2bar
But yes, apart from the fact the ecu drops into limp home mode, you also cant see any other faults develop and you have a gopping red light illuminated on your dash pissing you off
Why do customers think this is acceptable?
Why cant i have some of these easily pleased customers?

the 3dr i just sold did it, when i bought it the light came on after a few mins on the way home and with over 200 miles to go i thought `shiiiiiiiiiiiittt`, as it looks like an engine block i thought there was something really wrong with it, but it drove back fine. realised it was something to do with boost over the next day or say, everytime it hit 15 psi it would come on
have to say i dont miss that particular 3dr `feature` with the one i have now

So is this not applicable if running a 3 bar?
Also mine comes on once in a blue moon when i start it up, i then turn it off and back on again and it goes away but this only happens very rarely, what could that be?

what happens when a L1 ecu goes in to limp home mode then stu?
my old stage1 used to flash the light up,but didnt notice any difference to the drive.
the old stage1 chips where just standard chips with the boost limit removed weren't they?

The strategy changes slightly from what i can tell, its tricky to tell with that old dinosaur and ive never really cared enough to spend any time looking cos i remove the limitations properly and not shoddily like some mappers do/did so its no issue to me.
It just intrigues me how a tuner can charge you brewsters to fit a chip etc, then when you nail it the management fault light comes on, he tells you not to worry, or take the bulb out, and you all think its perfectly FINE and proceed to put up with it for years!!!

i still run a L1 lenny and new chip dont do it
if you over lay the map of an old standard L1 chip and a stage1 L1 chip they are excatley the same bar having the boost limit removed ( think thats what its called)

you use either escort cos big turbo trottle postion sensor or a sierra 4wd trottle postion sensor or you can use your same 2wd trottle postion sensor and swap the two wires over
