Manchester has hit the jackpot by winning the licence to build Britain's first Las Vegas-style supercasino.
The city fought off competition from six other contenders, including Glasgow and London, to scoop the licence.
Newcastle, Cardiff, Sheffield and Blackpool were also in the running. The Government says the supercasino will boost regeneration, but opponents say it will result in more people developing gambling problems.

Once there is one and the government start cashing in they'll be everywhere.

Remember the Lottery, only 1 draw a week. Now everyday, several saturday/wednesday plus scratch cards.

I'm just glad we didn't get it up here. We've already got some of the worst gambling problems in the country, this would have made it a lot worse.

Yes it would have looked pretty on the banks of the clyde or wherever it may have been built, but Glasgow could do without adding to it's social problems.

Already MP's are saying they may relax the rules on not having anymore. As said above it will snowball out of control.

Why? blackpool is seasonal with its visitors where as manchester centre is buzzing with business men, footballers and idiots in plenty of debt

Im not saying im glad its coming here but its a more logical place than blackpool.

The good thing about it being in Manchester, all the nuggits from Longsight can go there and get a couple of new motors every night instead of keeping the neighbourhood awake with gunshot

i ain't bothered either way , i was surprised i expected Blackpool to get it as all the hype on the TV in the north has been Blackpool based in regard to the casino , but like i say not bothered it aint my thing .
