Default Is Windows Vista worth it?

Is Vista worth getting over XP?

If it is, then for the home user, why?

Looks prettier, but software support for it is shit at the moment, as are most drivers

Wouldn't bother just yet, plus if you planning on upgrading make sure you've got either an HT or dual core processor with at least 1gb ram. I've got an AMD Athlon 3200+ with 768mb RAM and it seems a bit slow

Yeah definitely. If you've got the right spec i.e. 2GB.

I've had no incompatibility problems apart from my web cam isn't supported but drivers etc... all there to be got. All the programs I've used run perfectly.

I've got a 64bit cpu and it seems a lot faster and smoother than XP. It would be interesting to compare it against the 32bit versions though.

Other good thing is that so far there are no virus' so antivirus software isn't so much of an issue (there are free programs to use if you want though).

User interface is much quicker to navigate one you get use to it and you can personalise how it works much more than XP. Aero interface is much better than the old atl+tab.

Some features are a bit of a mac rip off such as 'gadgets'.

There is no real reason to buy it though. I would imagine it will come into swing once PC manufactures start shipping prebuilt PC's with it.

I bought it because I would have to at some point and the fact is its a BETTER OS than XP.

I don't think Microsoft will ever make an OS that doesn't require re-installing every 6 months. Mine has just lost the drivers for both my dvd drive and my dvd-rw drive, and 2 nero image drives

Uninstalled and reinstalled, tried updating via windows update, tried the repair feature, proper fucked

The only feature that Vista has over XP that is desirable is DirectX 10 support as this will not be provided for XP even though it is capable of running it. Once games start using this many people will simply upgrade.

proof of concept viruses for Vista were written as early as 2005 and because it is still built on the NT kernel the same issues are still there that previous versions of windows have..

If you want a secure, stable good looking and great performing OS look at OSX.

If you want a cool desktop with more advanced features than vista look at Linux

Had it running on a Optiplex 745 with 512mb RAM. Seemed fine to me.
