Default X5 stolen now recovered, insurance question?

X5 stolen now recovered, insurance question?

Morning all, I need some info and advice as to where a friend would stand on the following.

Basically after a heavy night drinking Fri night my friends house got done over and his X5 stolen, police called etc and involved in a chase. During the chase the scum who nicked it tried reversing into police cars repeatedly and after a tyre came off one of the wheels, it got put it in a ditch and they made a run for it (police officers words).

Right now the car has been recovered and is currently sat in a recovery yard waiting for the police to finger print it. Upon calling the yard over the weekend the chap said on the phone it looked repairable, not gospel I know but a pretty good indication that it will be fixed. After all it is a 35k motor so I suppose unless its a total state they are going to try and put it back on the road.

Obviously not good news for my friend if they want to do this because 1) its going to of had a good thrashing over the 25 mile chase 2) autobox / trans is not going be in the best condition after being rammed in reverse repeatedly and being driven with a tyre off the rim 3) its not a nice thought to know its been stolen repaired.

Is there anyway you can refuse to take a bent repaired car back after incidents like this or have you just got to accept the fact? I know the other route is to sell it but on cars like an X5 your going to lose on a p/x value anyway.

Any info would be appreciated

Think if the insurance company say the will have it repaired then you have no option but to go with it. Id wait till it's been PROPERLY inspected buy a pro and not the office boy at the yard just because it "looks repairable" dont mean it is. Could be a number of things fucked if they were ramming it into things

Know what you mean early days and all that, but took it as its not been rolled so even if they spend 15k on repairs its still cheaper than paying a total loss of 35K ish

Thats an idea but think the yard might look at us a bit odd if we get underneath it or start battering the roof.

Did not know if you had the right to refuse it back once (if) repaired

just because it's been recoverd don't mean to say it's going to be ok
and once they put that fingerprint stuff in there, it'll take a new interiur to get the stuff looking back to what it should be

if you can get near the car, take a bottle of water with you, take off the oil filler cap and empty the water in and start the engine.any body checking the oil will suspect a head gasket or cylinder head problem. this will just add to the cost of repair and possibly make it not worth repairing

Or dent your pocket when it Łcuks the engine

If it costs them 15k to repair it and its 30k to replace, they wont repair it, just wait and see what assesor says...
