xr21-carl I was at the filming & he looks like he's lost a LOT of weight and it seems to have aged him but I'm not suprised!!
Mr.Ford I think its Tuesday at 7pm on BBC2 but there's a clip of when they showed the crash here:

Top Gear back to its usual funny items and funny dialogue between them all.
First time I'd seen vid footage of the crash and clearly show the r/h tyre inner edge starting to strip then blow-out.
"At 230mph upside down the rollcage and my head dug into the ground and stopped us" Lucky man.
Remember kids..speed kills

I have to say that I was surprised at how 'tame' the accident looked. It's a high-speed crash, so of course it's going to look reasonably nasty, but it could have rolled 10-15 times and broke up into little pieces. Look at some of the Top-Fuel Drag-racing crashes, where the cars practically vapourise and end-up with just a cockpit and the driver walks away.
Big-up Hamster though, he is still a lucky lucky man.
I was shocked to read this morning that the owner of the Vampire partly blames Hammond for the crash. He claims that he carried on driving on a flat-tyre! It is clear from the video that the tyre delaminated and with everything else that was going on, it's not a wonder that Hammond didn't spot it. Surely the crew could have watched the camera footage live and if so, they would have been equally responsible for spotting the tyre failing, but in any case, what could have been done?? Nothing IMO.

Chrsitian, the intersting thing is, the more violent the crash looks, the less it is likely to be.
All those bits falling off, lots of rolls, is good as it is dissapating all the energy. As long as the bits round the driver hold, he's more likely to survive. The worst kind is when the car comes to a dead stop

Remember, when those top fuel cars go over, they're on solid tarmac and the roll bar acts as the top surface of a safety cell. The roll bar on Hammond's car would have dug into the soft grass and mud, meaning that's precisely why it didn't go over several times.
Also consider that when you see those big spectacular accidents, parts of the car are shedding themselves left right and centre, so the disipation of energy is greater, meaning less secondary damage to the driver. You want the car to break up - the fact that it didn't is what makes the accident so bad IMO.
Or just as Rick has put whilst I was writing my reply

When he said "I've never felt so alive" before his last run it put a bit of a lump in my throat.
