Default Urgent NTL Broadband question ?

Long storey short some shite going on my website and i am trying to trace them back. there are 2 people browsing that have the same ip. Now this to means means they are either sat on the same comp or in the same building ?

before i go pointing fingers does anyone know if ntl broadband is different and lets some people in the same area share the same ip ?

Where's the ip address from, do an nslookup IPADDRESS on your computer to find out.

Most Dialup and some broadband services show the same ip address to the outside world, it doesn't have to be the same building or pc... The IP address you get may be the IP of an ISP who has 1000's of customers, each with their own IP address on the ISP's private network, but on the outside world, they all look like the same.

Cheers

thats what i was trying to find out mate ? on dial up and ADSL you either have your own fixed ip and are given one when you dial up but pretty sure thats a unique one. I am just checking if this was the case on NTL as i have never used it.

His first post was calling us wankers for hacking his site wouldnt even know where to start

i traced ip and it came back wiv NTL Broadband server 5 in manchester which is local too me

The one you are given when when dial up IS unique within the NTL network, but not necessarily the same you see on the outside world.

frog, i disagree, NTL is not PATed and so each individual machine does have an individual address on the internet...

so... unless the person you're talking about is very clever and is spoofing his address, i think you have indeed discovered your culprit...

Jim, I didn't know that was how NTL worked m8, just saying how networks can run in general, and that IP addresses can be hidden by ISPs.

if he has more than 1 pc on the same connection ie ICS or hardware router the ip will show up as the same.

so your 2 users are probably 1 and the same jsut one account is for flaming you
