Default removed head on the cossy ..follow on from other post

took head off and there no visual crack to the block or head the gasket looks fine to but head bolts are not genuine ones..but there is a scratch on the face of the head and gasket might of been when installed

Did all the bolts feel the same when you took them out?

Were any looser /stretched?

yes the middel ones felt losser l and it was number 2 cylinder that was getting water in i know this is my problem ..so this time i will be using what i should have used before 4 layer wrc gasket and cosworth head bolts

Have a look to see if the bottom of your rad has ballooned out like a

thats what i all ways do but it didnt over heat or blow the gasket but will skim if needed could my head bolts have been the problem as there the 10.9 ones with the littel scratch on the head i might be in luck buy changing the gasket and genuin bolts

check the head they are known to crack in the combustion chamber you need a trained eye to spot it

di you use " dummy studs " to locate the head when you dropped it back on ? If you didn't the heads mover around a lot and can damage the gasket !
Ive just binned a head that had gone porous , you can see lots of little pin pricks all over the head face, smoked like a coont and filled up cylinder no. 3 , thought it was a cracked bore ( again ) but luckily not

if you keep skimming your head every time you take it apart eventualy the gasket will be thicker than your head there is a min head thickness.
what ever your comp is now low or otherwise it will raise it.
The long stud conversion strengthens the block and reduces bore distortion associated with clamping the head from the top of the block
