Default Gas/Electric Usage (Again!! LOL)......

Can you do me a little favour? I would be VERY interested to know what your Gas and Electricity usage is please?

I am particularly interested in the most recent 3 months.

My figures that I have here are from 26.10.06 to 26.01.07, so the closer to that the better the comparison.

3-Bedroom Detached Bungalow - Gas Combi Boiler

Units used in 3 months - 821

Also, what are your charges??

Our's is currently with Scottish Power and we are paying 15.46pence per day standing charge and 6.251pence per unit.

The result is £66 per month, which I reckon is fucking scandalous.

Strangely, (I know it was Summer), we only used 150 units in the previous 3 months, from July to October.

Get your figures out!!

Energy costs went up about three times last year, but that shouldn't affect your usage, just the cost.

We have a 4 bedroom detached bungalow and are all-electric as there's no gas in the village.

We pay £110pm to Scottish Hydro every month by DD. Seems to work out over the year.

803 units in a month??

£70?

800 units cost me £200 at a lower Kwh rate?? You sure yours was in a month? That must have been 3 months surely?

Iain, I realise that the rate change wouldn't affect usage, I am trying to establish if our usage is out of the ordinary.

We pay £40 per month for electric.

slowpoke, I wouldn't panic too much.

£40 per month is more than enough to budget for Electric.

Water should be less than that.

Is only Gas that is a struggle. I have been concerned about our Gas useage for sometime now. It appears that the average is around £40-50 per month, from what I have seen.

I'm in a 3 bed semi I pay £50 a month gas and £30 a month electricity. I work out about right for the year, Last year I was in credit about £14 or something.

I'm with Scottish Hydro, used to be with Scottish Gas but they were very expensive. I reckon when I changed a few years ago I was saving something like £40 a month on the dual fuel offer.

Scottish Power are one of the better ones so I don't think your price is wrong for your usage.

Try looking at saving in other areas, I've re-insulated my loft, have got cavity wall insulation, fitted a new boiler and have replaced all my lightbulbs with those low energy ones. Play about with your timer settings on your central heating, don't heat the house when you're out at work etc. Amazing how much you can save if you manage it right.

Gas is bloody outrageous!!! at the moment i'm paying £120 a month for a 3 bed semi and the heating is on 4am-6am (getting up for work) 2pm-4pm (getting home from work) then 7:30pm-11pm then perhaps pressing the boost button 3 or 4 times a week which is another hour of heating

Electric i'm doing about £50 a month but i never turn anything off the pc is on permanant as well as a few other bits...

Last year my gas was around £60 a month

All with British Gas

I don't have the bill to hand but it's £80 pcm, from eco-tricity not sure how many units but nothing out the ordinary has happened in the last three months [i.e. no fuck off xmas lights in the garden]

the only thing we have here is a tumble dryer and a electric cooker which may be bumping our electric up.

One average it's been about £40-60 pcm though over the last 12 months so it's taken a substantial hike.

Yes, you're right. I need to take another look at my bill because if what I said above is right, then I have used the same amount of Gas in 3 months as you have in a month, but been charged alot more.

I must have made a mistake.

I know the fact that we have been charged £200 for 3 months is not a mistake though.

Christian, are your bills from proper gas readings or are they estimated ?

Estimates are always estimated at the top end of what you may use so youl pay more.

2 bed semi,
no doubl glazing,
no insulation,
open fields on 2 side.
2 of us, and a kitten.

brand new condensor boiler, with room stat, and rad stat's, set on 19oC when home, about 3-4 hours a day.
and modern electrics, inc freezer/fridge, cooker, washing machine and tumble dryer.

Gas, 31-10-06 to 27-01-07
270.408 m3 used,
British gas, prepay, no charges Just expensive per unit. and crap customer services, REAL BAD useless c-nts.

Electric, 31-10-06 to 27-01-07
888.36 KW/h used = £99.69. = £33 a month.
EDF energy, prepay, with £1.25 a week charge.

I've been meaning to sort out new suppliers, as both are deal compared to what i could be paying.

Ive noticed through work loads of people seem to be changing to Southern Electric and Scottish power.

Some people dont realise little things like leaving your tv/video/dvd player on stand-by uses the same amount of electricity as if it was switched on all night. And by turning your thermostat down by one degree can save you a fair bit money on gas etc etc

so christian, answer the question ^^^^^

We are fairly good with reading our meters, but this one we forgot, but we read the meter and updated it, which made it a little nicer, but not alot!!

We are currently trialling leaving our heating on most of the time at a moderate heat (19.5°c), so that in the evenings/mornings etc it doesn't have to work so hard to heat the bungalow. Not really sure how that will work out, but it's certainly more comfortable and the heating doesn't take anywhere near as long to hit our target temperature (21.5°c).

Powergen seem to be price competitive around here at least (Leeds), plus you get Tesco clubcard points for all the money you spend with them. Which means we're off on holiday at least twice this year for nowt
