Ace CAfe tonight - The worlds gone Volvo Crazy !!!
Went to the all new 'Blue Oval Night' tonight at the Ace Cafe
I know I know... total chav-fest..
The funny thing was, the carpark started emptying about 9:30 and by ten past ten there was hardly anyone there.... is there a curfew I dont know about ?
Anyway..
Got talking to a bloke who had a Volvo 340 of all things.... and he'd stuck a Williams Clio motor in it for drifting..
And just as he was showing me under the bonnet... two other geezers went past in a 4 door volvo and promptly looped the roundabout a good few times and flew off up the road
Now this is cheap Rear Wheel Drive fun......... who needs a MkII Escort
But a 340... !! They all smell of lavendar and wee

But they are sooo cheap... and you can drop a Clio 172 motor in them apparently.
That is cheap drift action.... albeit without the style....

To be honest I normally only go to the Old Skool Ford organised days simply due to the Chav factor and the 'whacky stunt' driving

Apart from the odd twat in a mk6 rs 2000 it was alright.
There were a few sheds that somehow got in the car park, but a few nice escort and sierra cossies, a good showing of 3 doors, a few mk2 escorts, 2 fiesta mk2 turbos( a bit of inspiration for me that hopefully people will see the result of in about august) loads of focus rs' and even an f350!!(1 or two nice novas but no-one heard me say that)
A noble m12 turned up(A ford at the heart i suppose)
It was a lot better than previous ford nights in terms of not as many dicks.
volvos are becoming very popular. my house mates are after one for a cheap bit of fun. id rather an e30 325 estate but there you go. 340s look the nuts slammed on minilites though!!!
how come the clio engine fits so well??

Alot of the Volvos have Renault Engines in as standard so its a piece of piss to swap it..
The engine bay is huge, you'd easy get a Cossie motor in there... but when you can pick up a 172 motor off e-bay for Ł500 why bother..
170 brake... rwd..... I make that Round-a-bout o'clock....
The thing I love about all this is you can have a load of fun for not alot of money... and if you bin it.. have the motor out and go and get another one..
I am sooooo tempted its unreal.

I'm looking for a 340 after reading about stavros' volvo. none for sale around here though. Best thing is it will only cost me 150 quid to insure and with how cheap they are wouldnt matter too much if I damage it trying to learn to drift.
I wanted a 200sx but they seem to all be quite alot now. I just want something rwd and cheap so it doesnt matter if I smash it. I also looked at an old school skoda rapid

I have a modded 360 as well. They handle/drift shockingly well as long as you know how to drive em and dont just give it billy power oversteer to try n get it sideways.
Tons of modified drifty 340s and 360s around in the UK these days.
In scandinavia (check out the 300power forum) there tons more.
With 340s Renault engines bolt straight in, with 360s Volvo engines bolt straight in (ie 2.3turbo etc etc...)

I heard that 2 people were killed at Ace Cafe last Weds/Thurs.
Apparently they were hit by a Cossie as it was spinning round the round-about.
Is this true? Or have I just been fed a load of shite??

360s have a stronger torque tube (like a prop, but from engine to the rear mounted gearbox).
That the main stuff.

But for some reason they've started it up again and last night was the first one.
Check www.ace-cafe-london.com for details, I think its Fourth Tuesday of the Month
Although I did get wind that Fast Ford were going to be there next month
The most impressive thing in the car park last night was the amount of finance...

Been looking into this for a while, got a bit of money together and might have a dabble with one I think especially as it's snowing now! Hmmmm, I'm thinking a R5 GT Turbo engine would fit then?!

Ive looked into this and I was planning it this way before I got the 360 instead.
If you listen to the UK Volvo 300 fanatics/geeks they make out its next to impossible, not to mentoin the fact GTT engines are shit/unreliable/etc etc.
But me n you both know they shithot engines
Its never been done before it seems, but it looks dead easy.
As long as you buy a 1.4 as your base car, the GTT engine bolts straight in and onto the volvo box, as does crank sensor, the lot.
Unless my eyes are decieving me, electrically it will all swap straight over, even the coil/ign ecu thingy looks the same, tho obv different inside.
Massive engine bay that the 1.4 looks totally lost in, so can fit as big a turbo/intercooler/chargecooler/rad as you can imagine.
Turbo looks like it WONT fit in the natural place over the gearbox, with the heater box removed it may, but its close, and the interior heater pipes will deffo need moving.
IMO the cheapest and easiest thing to do is run a short (nees to be 6in long, max) extension pipe from the stock manifold round to the other side of the enginebay and mount the turbo anywhere there, could fit twin T88s there if you wanted there so much room (once you binned off the spare wheel!).
Need to change the fuel system as stock its a gay mechanical pump, but thats no biggie.
Prob should change the alloy prop for an uprated one, but they only like 150notes or so.
And well, thas about the basics of it, theres more, but all pretty easy stuff.
Any more info, jus ask mate.
Idve been halfway thru it by now if i didnt get the 360 instead, and its even easier to fit a 740/940 turbo engine to a 360 than it is a GTT or Clio lump to a 340!

I was there last night....................was in the black Volvo 340 having some fun!
Here is a pic of a volvo on minilites...........I have grown suprisingly fond of it!!
As has been said any of the clio lumps up to the 172 fit the volvo with relative ease. im going 1.8 16v though from a Clio / 19. To be honest as you might have seen last night you can get sideways fairly easily with the standard lump. I just fancy a bit more power as am driving out to le mans in the summer and perhaps via Nurburgring on the way home!
P.S. I also felt sorry for the dude on the roundabout! .... I think i will be attending the Classic ford nights again from now on .... far to many chavved fiestas and tashed youths shouting about how fast their mates mondeo is!

Doesnt the 1.7 Volvo Turbo motor drop straight in ?
Surely that would be a better move than wringing the neck of the 1.4 GTT ?
Although I think 170bhp of N/A motor would be a better option, much more reliable.... and there was one on e-bay last night for Ł475 on a pallet ready to be delivered out of a 36,000 mile 172 renault cup

Yep, the 1.7 turbo goes straight in too.
But IMO that engines nowhere near as good as the GTT one.
But when you can put 2.3 turbos in the 360s, is there a lot of point?
And yes, 300 series Volvos slammed on 13s look the tits.

Like Steve says you can get the 2.3 turbos in there, B230ET I think they are. Good solid engine with a decent engine management I believe. Comes with a Mistibushi (TD06?) or Garret T3 depending on age I think? Cheap and about 200bhp standard I think with quite a bit of budget boost tuning potential.
I had a 940 with a B20ET lump in (2.0 version) and was really impressed with the performance for what was a brick with four wheels on the bottom. I would imagine one of those 2.3's in a 360 would be fuggin ace.
